If you’re only going to have one Metallica album which is the one to have?
ST Anger or the Black Album. Probally ST anger

That’s a pretty tough question though…maybe Justice for All or Master of Puppets (Master of Puppets and Battery are two of my favorite songs, they’re on that album).
St. Anger is one of my favorite. its been awhile since i have heard it but ST. Anger and Frantic are my 2 favorite songs on it

Raphael, if you like the old classic style of metal, with long, involved songs, get …And Justice for All or Master of Puppets. If you like shorter, more concert-esque songs, get their self-titled album (you’ll probably see it referred to as the Black Album).
Seriously, though, don’t get St. Anger. For that matter, don’t get anything made after the Black Album…the Metallica that got popular got popular off of their first five albums.
st. anger was/is horrible. so is load/reload. hell to purists the black album was a sellout record. i’d personally vote for master of puppets, maybe and justice for all, but yeah, something pre-black album for sure

I was a big fan of Metallica since many years ago and even saw them in 1999 (I traveled 600KM to see 'em) and I can very sadly say now that I consider St. Anger their worst album by far…no guitar solos, poor song structure, tired voice and ill sound (especially the snare drum sounds crap) :(((
I listen mostly to metal bands…from NWOBHM to some kick-ass Extreme Metal bands…by the way, now I listen: Unleashed - Victory (1995), *****
Again, Metallica screwed it up bad with St. Anger. However many bands have their bad days and then return with full force. I still trust 'em and hopefully they will do some good again; until then I have a thousand bands to listen to…

I agree with the “nothing after the black album” advice… I would personnaly not include the black album into my favorites though.
My favorite metallica albums are “…and justice for all” (neverending riffs/solos) and “kill em all” (for its refreshing energy. Look at their picture at the back of the cover if you can, those guys where teenagers:D )

That sums it up for me, they sobered up and put st. anger out and it was a big let down.
I’ve never liked more than a few songs on each album
my favourite songs are no doubt one and blackened, but i think my favourite album would be the black album.
i also liked several songs on load or reload, like fuel. i’m not sure i’ve heard from st anger at all.
i’m actually kind of excited that Megadeath is coming out with a new one

I don’t plan to buy the album, but instead add it to my Lala want list. And I just would like to add the one album about which there is the most agreement that it is the Metallica album to have if you’re only going to have one.
If I really like it, I might get more.
I’d say Metallica- The blackest Alubum.

If you like it and decide to get more, you’ll then be in a position to follow the development of the music untill they became as bad as U2, music for people who don’t like music.
