Anybody know anything about Matthews? I’ve never heard of it before.

Re: Matthews unicycle
Bill Matthews sold imported bicycles and unicycles in the U.S. until he
passed away years ago. I know the guy who made frames for him.
Call Tom Miller at The Unicycle Factory if you want to know more
information on them. Tom sold them and bought most of the stock when
Bill Mattews went out of business.

By the way… I bought a LOYD unicycle at a swap meet in Michigan on the
weekend. They were one of the first production unicycles ever produced.
Somewhere between 1962 and 1967. Before that, he hand made unicycles and
Schwinn bought the patent from Loyd in 1967.

What did you want to know about it? It looks like the one in the pictures
I think the guy’s name was Bill Matthews, and he was a California-based
maker of unicycles (and possibly other stuff). Originally he manufactured
them in CA, but I think your frame is from one of the big factories in
Taiwan. I’ve seen older Matthews “standard” unicycles, with heavy-duty steel
frames kind of like a Schwinn, but with the flat steel bending over the top
of the tire, and a normal seat post tube above.
From what little I know of the Matthews brand, they are sturdy, decent
unicycles. Except for that nasty seat of course. You can order a nice Miyata
or other seat from Unicycle.com. Find out your seat post diameter first, so
you get the right size post.
Bill Matthews passed away in the late 80s or early 90s. I think that was the
end of Matthews unicycles. That’s all I know.

Thanks Darren and John for the historical info. It’s nice to have some
background on the thing.

Hello everyone new here just joined today. I’m looking to sell my Bill Matthew’s 5 or 6 ft unicycle. It’s 5ft from the fork to the seat, and a 20” rim. It has the original seat I believe as it says Taiwan. Moving to Atlanta September 19 looking to sell it before then or on the way if anyone wants to meet up on my way out. I don’t know what I should ask for it.
I was gonna post for sale on here when I get more info on it.
