I have the same pedals, but in the green/orange/black/yellow camouflage like @Bug72 , on my 27.5 Muni and love them. Just enough grip, but they still allow me to reposition my feet easier than aggressive pins.

Could you combine the two different grips on one pedal, ie one side would be fully flat whilst the other would have the little studs?
Yes you can. I have found that I like the pegs a little better and have since put pinned pads on all of my unis with the look pedals. Keep an eye on eBay I just picked up another set, new in the box in yellow with pins for $35.00 . The pins give me more confidence in wet conditions.
