I speak english (of course), conversational spanish, I know a few phrases in french and polish, and I want to learn latin and/or german.
German was my first choice language for highschool foreign language class, but the teacher broke her neck and apparently you need to have a functional neck in order to be able to teach a language - go figure
French was my second choice but the class filled up too quickly.
Spanish was my final choice and last resort (IB students aren’t allowed to take sign language), so I was stuck with it. 5 years of spanish and I’m not nearly fluent.
I speak Danish, English, and, with some difficulty, German.
I understand Swedish and Norwegian but I’d sound foolish if I tried to speak the languages.
I took a French course once but I’ve forgotten most of it by now.
I can read a bit of Dutch, but very very slowly. Mostly because so many of the words look similar to the equivalent ones in Danish, English, or German.
I would like to learn Welsh or Icelandic, but should get my French in working order before starting any new projects.
Fluently, Spanish and English. A few French phrases.
Icelandic is the hardest language to ever learn.
I saw it on 60 minutes, they had this guy, a saavant, like from rainman. He learned it in a week.
I think it’s a bit easier for scandinavians. At least I hope so.
I decided to learn a language after several abandoned attempts. I know so many folks who speak more than one, I am a bit ashamed of myself only speaking English. I guess it is a gesture to recognise that there is a world of people out there.
I am learning Scottish Gaelic because my son through both his father and me have a heritage there. I’m also Welsh, but Bear isn’t.
I named by do Gwyn in honor of the Welsh in my family.
I am learning a couple different ways.
I teach yourself course that includes a workbook and an audio CD
I am a beginners Gaelic listserve
Many online sites have recordings of Gaelic conversation, too.
I can’t find any folks in my area who speak it, I have some emails out to the language department at the university, but no replies yet.
I think it’s great that so many of you speak more than one language!
Good going.

Oh yeah, I can also speak Canadian. It comes in handy sometimes.
I can speak English, obviously, and I’m decent in Spanish (a bit lacking on the vocab).
I want to learn Italian though.
Too bad that’s the only language you know.
I speak English and working on Spanish, mostly for school though, I’ll probably end up forgetting it.
I want to learn Japanese, and have learned a few words/phrases as well as some fundamental grammar rules that are really hard to wrap my head around with my English-language upbringing. And the inflection of Japanese is still lost on me…but I’d like to eventually become fluent.
English, French, Latin (speaking is a bit hard, but I can read and write it) are my most fluent languages.
I can survive in Germany and Italy, as I found out at the beginning of April.
English, and a bit of german and french. And in Welsh I know the meaning of the words llath and araf, I’m sure you can guess why.
