Knee protection

Twice now I have taken a bad UPD on my left knee, it has affected my ability to ride for a few days, and it is also not fun to have a big scrape on my knee. I don’t want to get the full UDC protection thing, I mostly just want something I can put on my knees.

Does anyone know of some good, not so noticable knee guards?

Thanks.

Hey,

A few month ago I had the same “problem”. I had the Kris Holm Knee guard (an old version) but they are so extremly warm that I only wear them in difficult areas (Muni) but I felt everytime in “easy” areas without them on the body.

I have done many “research” on youtube and there are many positive reviews especially in topic “temperature” for the POC Knee guards, I’ve bought the “POC Air Knee” (less protection, more temperatur regulation) and “POC VPD 2.0” (more protection, a bit warmer) and testet both for a few Minutes by 25°C. The difference was not very noticeable so I decided to send the “POC Air Knee” back. It was in comparison to the Kris Holm Version like night and day, Kris Holm -very hot, POC - super confortable.

I wear the POC since that day on EVERY ride the whole time also by 30°C and yes i sweat a bit but I did not feel it until I remove them afterwards.

I had also a few crashes with them and I was everytime surprised how soft they are.

One minus point is, that they are difficult to remove them, but for me its an advantage because I wear them for the whole ride.

I know its a bit long but I hope I coud help you. And please don’t judge on grammar etc, english is not my native language.

I’m liking my Endura mt500 kneepads, combination of hard(-ish)shell and impact absorbing foam with decent comfort.

The hardshell slides on the ground, the impact absorbing foam absorbs the shock and distributes it.

But options on the MTB market are pretty big, from ultra thin to the more bulky ones I have. I would absolutely recommend something with some shock absorbing foam (whether that is d3o, sas-tec or someone else), not just hardshell or simple foams as you tend to find on cheaper pads.

I see I should have done more research into knee pads. I got bulky hardshell ones that are better suited for roller blading, but only wear them on the EUC. I dont do the kind of tricks anymore that land me on my knees.

Black Diamond TeleKneesis kneepads offer good protection with little bulk and are quite comfortable.

ok, thanks

I have been very happy with these knee pads the three times I have UPD’d while wearing them on the road/concrete (36er at high speed, 26” at medium speed, 24” at slow speed). They don’t slide down one bit, they protect your skin 100%, and the thick padding cradles your kneecap area while eliminating any pain.

A long time I rode with knee guards I got from the indoor sports department in a local sports shop. I think they were meant for something like Volley Ball. Very soft, not the kind of protection you get from proper bike knee guards. But very comfortable and easy to wash. The few times I fell on them they did their job surprisingly well.
