KH24 review images

Greetings,

I’ve posted images in the rsu gallery of the KH24 I previously reviewed
and also some pics of my six year olds modified 16" Muni. I’m sure my
little King Muni-Man would like some feedback if you would like to
provide it.

I’m curious, does anyone else have as small and young a Muni partner as
me? My son is interested in other young riders and he really enjoyed the
video footage of Bou Hoover (sp?) Muni-ing.

Cheers,

Jason

Re: KH24 review images

Hi Jason.

Currently my 5.5 year old daughter is trying to learn how to unicycle. She had 3 lessons and a lot of fun up to now, and can make one or two revolutions before she breaks down. She saw the kids in “One wheel - no limit” and was completely hooked

Juergen

Re: Re: KH24 review images

Ciao tutti,

my son started to unicycle on his 16" with a 2.125 offroad tyre when he was 6.5 years old. Apart from “one wheel - no limit”, there is also a short sequence of Beau Hoover in “UniVerse”. Both videos are inspirational.

For some reason, Lucas (by now nearly 8) has not yet managed to hop properly. Although, he’s able to 1-foot, ww, ride backwards, ride seat-out-in front etc.

Why is hopping more difficult for a small kid than ww  ?

Hasta luego,
Franz

Re: KH24 review images

Abby became a rider two weeks before her sixth birthday last August and passed level one around three weeks after her BD.

When I started Muni this year she wanted a knobby for herself so I found a 16x2.125. Her Muni so far consists of a pot-holed road and gravel paths at the local park. She also mastered dropping off curbs last week!

King Muni-Man, I like that custom red Muni. Very Cool. You can check out the girls here.

The added weight of the pedals required getting used to but he likes
them. I’m hoping to attach a home made muni handle for him this summer.

Hi Juergen,

That’s great! I think it just takes motivation. When my son learned he
wanted to practice more than an hour per day. We limited him to one hour
thinking he might burn out, and also we wanted to keep him hungry for
riding. He learned to ride somewhere in the 15-20 hour range. I’ve
posted in the past about our sessions. I may be able to go back and find
them if you’re interested? We invented a game called “Unicycle Tag”
which was very helpful.

Cheers,

Jason

This is great! I told my son he had some competition and it’s a girl
(he, he). I showed him the image of Abby on the soccer field and he was
very impressed. Although at this age he’s a LOT less interested in
girls than he will be later.

Greetings,

It may have to do with the relative weight difference. My son is 40lbs
and his Muni is 10lbs, this means he has to pull an additional 25% of
his body weight up in order to hop, and he has to do this this with
under developed arm and leg muscles.

When I hop on the KH24 I’m only lifting up an additional 11% of my body
weight, sadly also with underdeveloped arm and leg muscles…

Cheers,

Jason

Beau started riding just before he turned 7. His first real muni ride was 3
months later - that was on a 16" Semcycle XL, but he quickly moved to a 20"
Miyata. He switched to a United/Monty at age 9 and still rides it now. What
video did you see? There’s a sort of new clip at
http://nathan.unicyclist.com/ taken on his 11th birthday.

Hello Nathan,

My son has seen Beau riding in Universe and also the video’s from the rsu gallery where Beau is hopping over a log and some other Muni riding (with other riders). I think those videos were posted by John Foss, but I could be wrong.

I believe it’s good for children to see other similarly aged kids participating in their chosen sport(s). My son will be the first to tell anyone that mountain unicycling is his favorite sport. He was initially inspired by the kids in ‘Into to Unicycling’ from unicycle.com.

By the way, you and Kris (and Sean) did a wonderful job on ITTD. It think it’s my favorite unicycling video to date (and I have seen a few). Also, my son has enjoyed watching unicycling videos (over and over and over…) and he still enjoys watching ITTD (over and over…)

My Yuni trials is awating him. He’s quite the little fella, so he may need an intermidiate unicycle before going from his 16" to the 20" Monty. Time will tell.

Cheers,

Jason

Re: Re: KH24 review images

Hi Jason.

We joined a unicycling club (well, at least the unicycling section of a sports club:-), and we are going there once a week for 1.5 hours. Not much chance of burn out, I hope.

I read you posts last year as you wrote them, it was very interesting and one motivation for me to buy my daughter her unicycle.

I’ll keep that in mind for the time when she can ride.

Regards,
Juergen

Hello Juergen,

I can honestly say that spending the time learning to ride, and then
riding with my two children has provided me with some of the most
rewarding times I have ever experienced with them. It’s a pleasure to
ride with my daughter around our neighborhood and to the parks, and it’s
equally as wonderful to ride the trails with my little Muni driven son.
I had no idea what I was in for when I purchased those first couple of
unicycles. Life is just funny that way.

I am sure that you will have the same great times with your daughter! As
I said before, if I can help in any way by sharing my own experiences
I’m happy to do so.

Happy riding!

Cheers,

Jason

Re: Re: KH24 review images

Hi Jason,

very well worded, that describes the fascination that keeps me going as well! We’ve got 3 children. Up to now, I was mostly riding with my son, but lately my daughter, the youngest son and my wife started to practise unicycling as well.
In the basement (cellar) or our house I attached a wooden railing (6meters long) to the wall (something like ballet dancers use) of a very long corridor (10m). This comes in useful for the three beginners in our family and for the other two of us; especially during the winter, when one hardly could ride outside.

As for games. I quite like juggling. The obvious game to play on unis was ‘passing balls’ between us. Quite often we draw slaloms with chalk on the road and try to ride them. Or we ride it while driving a ball with a hockey stick along with us.
And lately, if we go places, we just try to ride backwards or 1-footet, which is good fun in its own right.

Thank you. This sounds very convincing.

Franz

hey, jason
do ya know the spoke length of your KH hub and ALEX rim?

No, but I am happy to measure them for you. Is this done from hub hole
to nippple or is there a special technique for this sort of thing.

Jason

There is a spoke length calculator here
<http://www.unicycle.uk.com/SpokeCalc.asp>
The KH hub isn’t listed in the calculator but they do show how to get the measurements yourself if you have the proper measuring tools. Maybe with some prodding you can get Roger to add the measurments for the KH hub.

and Roger if you reading this, maybe you could add the 24" Sun Doublewide ERD to the list.

the 26" is there but not the 24"

The specs for the Doublewide are available on the Sun-Ringle Site:

Doublewide ::::
Use: downhill riding and racing for bikes with disc-brakes.
Benefits: Welded, triple-hollow construction with our exclusive PRB (Pinch Resistant bead-clinch) double wall tire bead clinch to stop flat tires on harsh, abusive terrain. Designed through years of motorcycle and downhill experience with the world’s greatest riders. Nickel-plated brass eyelets. Recommended minimum tire width of 2.35

Tech Specs
559mm - 541 E.R.D., 507mm-486 E.R.D.
885 grams, 795 grams
32, 36 hole drillings
Color: black, white

Re: KH24 review images

Hi,

It is nice to be wanted.

I will add them but need the measurements, if you can measure them I will
add them for you. They are not UK stock which is why I have not been able
to do it.

Cheers

Roger
