KH 2007 Products- details & info are here

A flange is a plate. On a bike/uni hub, the flanges are two plates attached to the hub and perpendicular to the hub body. The spoke holes are drilled into the flange.

When the flange is aluminum, each spoke will tend to deform the aluminum slightly, making a little bed for itself. When the flange is steel, it’s too hard for the spoke to do this, so the spoke at the elbow tends to be under greater stress and more likely to fail.

Will there be any more strength added to the KH seatposts or are they the old ones?

KH.

This is still in progress. We had to tweak the shifter mechanism to make it stronger for offroad abuse. But it will be finished eventually!!! I was hoping that it could be available by Christmas but now it looks like it will probably not be ready until early 2007.

Kris

Yeah, but I just noticed somthing else about the 07’s they have 13 gauge spokes. The old have 14 gauge. The 13’s should help a little in those high stress areas on the flange’s.

Cool- would be fun to enter something.

Right now the seat bases are the same as the 2006 base. The front area is the same width, and personally I like this width. But the point of having a removable cover is that you can modify the foam to personal preference, so you could still do that.

Attached is a photo showing the profile of the 2 saddles. You can see that the foam profile is the same height in the front and back (sticks up only about 10mm above the bumpers). But in the case of the Freeride I reduced the curvature which increases padding thickness in the middle. This seems to be a lot better for increasing shock absorbancy and for decreasing pressure on the front of the saddle. But if you don’t like it you could still just take the saddle cover off and cut the foam to whatever shape you like.

Kris

When would these saddles be on udc?

It also true that steel flanges do have the potential to cut the spokes. We got around this in the Moment hub by using a softer steel in the flange, compared to the stiffer harder CrMo in the axle. And the thicker spokes should help as you say.

We did also play around with a prototype with Aluminum flanges. It was really nice, but it was also really complicated and expensive to make and there was a bit too much to go wrong with it. So we decided to go with a simpler setup with less to maintain and less to go wrong.

Kris

Everything should arrive around the end of September or the beginning of October.

Kris

Yes it should fit.

Nice! Im glad the gel gloves are finally out, I remember you having them over a year ago at the horny toad demo.
The new wheelsets look nice, I want a street seat but I have no money

Thanks, please keep us informed on the geared muni, are you only gearing the KH24 or the KH29 as well? I am ready to buy

what’s the price?

Kris,
What’s the price on the new seats? Looking forward to trying them both out for distance. Thanks again.

Aj

I personly think youre a genius

Damn I shouldv’e waited for this 2007 model

Holy Monoly!!!

those new rims are awesome!!!

i also like those new hub/crank set. im so gonna get a KH 20"

how much are the hub/cranks going to cost?

also, is the extra stability really helpful? I’m into natural trials, and my tire folds over when jumping from/ onto uneven surfaces. would the wider rim help eliminate that?

I’d like to say that these new unis are going to be pretty sweet.

I’ve been riding on this new rim for a while now, and it seems to have held round for longer than the older rims ever did for me. This might be a function of the wheelbuild, which I spent a lot of time doing, and also the fact that I used 13g spokes (I would use 14 before) however, I have yet to flat-spot this wheel, which is good!

As an answer to a previous question, you won’t need to buy new spokes to build up this rim. Mine worked fine on the length for the old KH rims. The E.R.D. (effective rim diameter) is the same on both rims, and so the old spoke length (correct me if i’m wrong, but 171mm I believe) will work fine.

As another answer, these wider rims certainly DO help reduce fold-over caused from riding natural trials.

I’m super stoked to ride one of these babies… man do those new cranks look sexy! Way to go Kris!

Good stuff. The description of the hub in this thread and on the web page made it pretty obvious that you and Roger had considered the design of the flanges to make them spoke friendly. All should be good.

I also really like the shape of the foam on the new Fusion Freeride along with the center cutaway. That is shape I’ve been trying to get for my Coker saddle by carving up the old Fusion foam. I’m going to have to get the new Fusion Freeride saddle (or just the foam if UDC will sell it that way) and try it out. The quest for a better Coker saddle knows no ends.

+1

I don’t have a Coker, but the shape looks ideal for long rides. It’s very similar to the shape that my modded old Fusion has taken on.

The best thing to eliminate that is a tire pressure higher than 4 psi.

i wanna buy the new freeride

miles do you have an msn account?
