Juggling Routine Help

So I think I may go out for the talent show at school this year, since I am really into juggling I mite do a juggling routine. But I need some help. How should I organize it. Like how should I come up with ways to do it. I want it to stick to sport juggling as much as I can but I’m not sure if I should choreograph it to match the song or just do my stuff.
I was thinking about doing rings and clubs and maybe balls. Then I would make a list of all the moves I can do and just try to get something together so I can transition from one to the next and make it look good.
Any help would be appreciated.
I think I am going to do “The Time Warp” from the Rocky Horror Picture show.

I’m posting in your new thread because you said I should over in MR. I haven’t read it, so don’t expect anything useful from my reply, but since you said I should reply here that’s exactly what i’m doing.

choreographing it entirely to music makes it look better, but it’s also more clownish which I don’t like. You should probablly have it match the music though, for instance just do 3 cascade when the music is slow, when it hits a fast part time it with a 3 ball flash, little things like that.

It’s best to start out small with 3, then do a few tricks, then if you add more props make a show of reaching down to pick up another ball, holding them up to show the crowd how many you have, and then proceeding to juggle. Then move on to different props, lke clubs or whatever.

It’s best not to do every trick you know, just the ones that looks best and are fairly easy for you to do. several little variations on tricks might all look the same to people at a glance, and stuff.

And what should I wear when I do this?

I agree that it makes it look much better, but I don’t think it makes it look clownish if it’s done right.

The best juggling show I ever saw was a guy juggling to some beatles music (some songs off of Abbey road I think). He just had 3 juggling balls but he choreographed it so well to the music that it didn’t matter.

Jeans and a t-shirt? That’s what I’d wear.

Your right, not clownish, but… he said he wants to keep it “sport juggling”.

That was probablly Chris Bliss? I’ve seen that…

Well, I just don’t want it to be acting, I mean if it is all good tricks then I wouldn’t mind coreographing it. But I want it to be good tricks and not chris bliss crap.

Aye, that was Chris Bliss.
After watching that one, check out Jason Garfield's parody of Chris’s performance.

Jason Garfield > Chris Bliss anyway…

I always like to wear a vest and a necktie with a sharp hat. But this is also how I dress normally. If you normally wear jeans and a tee shirt, then that might be a good choice.

If you want to avoid being “clowny” with music, you might try some kind of narrative while you juggle, but coming up with things to say can be difficult.

It’s hard to give you very good general advice, but good luck

sorry to threadjack, but GirlnaBeret, are you wearing goggles in your avatar?

maybe they are futuristic glasses, they look cool though!

I am, in fact, wearing goggles. I altered them myself! (note: I do not make goggles, nor do I know how)

Here’s the bigger photo

Have you watched many jugglers doing their routines? My whole juggling style was influenced by watching early movies of jugglers at IJA conventions. Have you gone to any IJA or regional juggling conventions? It’s a good idea to watch lots of other jugglers DOING their ROUTINE. Brian Dube has LOTS of videos for sale, on the internet. I’m lucky, his shop is in SoHo, NYC, easy access for me. I got my clubs, swords, very expensive balls, even a unicycle (a LONG time ago) from him. And of course, in the shop, he’ll put in a video for you to watch.

Jugglling alone is not entertaining.

You may want to TALK a bit. People enjoy introducing your self as someone who does imitations. 'For my first imitation, I will do “The Tax Collector”. Do overhand catches, while saying Gimme, Gimme! A variation of this is to do the tax collector last year, this year and next year. With the first, grab a ball every 3rd or 4th, for this year, grab every other or so, and for next year, grab every one, and raise your voice to a fever oitch Gimme gimme gimme gimme.

A madman juggling combines over the shoulder or behind the back throws with under the leg throws, and a crazed look on your face. Be inventive.

But practive A LOT in front of your family, friends, then strangers on the street. The SHOW should not be your first time in front of an audience.

Juggling is much easier than ENTERTAINING.

Have fun, and good luck!

PS Shhhh. Please keep it a secret that I was here.

Thank you.
