Hi, Lewis.

I didn’t notice any replies to your request, so I’ll class myself as an
“Etc.” and reply.

This site has a basic collection of phrases:
http://www.asahi-net.or.jp:80/~IF2N-SZK/jcont.html

This one’s got some kids’ oriented info on Japan (check out the Language
Lab):

Here’s a good English<->Japanese dictionary:
http://linear.mv.com/cgi-bin/j-e/dict

I’ve got a whole list of bookmarks but it looks like 90% of them are
giving 404:File not found these days. Such is the way of the net. Ho
hum.

That said, it really is best to learn this kind of thing in a class -
besides, you might have a crush on the instructor.

Regards,
Mark.

One of the most popular Japanese dictionary reosouce on the net is:

http://www.dgs.monash.edu.au/~jwb/wwwjdic.html

Though it may have errors and omissions, it has just about all you would ever
need in terms of dictionary lookup. (We helped the author, Jim Breen, build this).

If you are serious about learning kanji, try my dicitonary, which has become established
as a standard reference work in Japanese language education. It is designed for beginners
to interndiate leve learners yYou will not be disappointed):
