Hello everybody just found this forum and since i am a unicyclist i figured i would join. Since you dont have an intoduction thread here is mine. i am 17, riding since the summer of 05. I live in toms river, NJ. Since i have started riding i have yet to see another rider and i ride mine everywhere(school fuctions, on my street, at the boardwalk, at concerts, at games) so if anyone else lives in my area i would like to meet you. i can only do a couple things like ride it “smoothly”, hop, 180 hop, ride really fast, and turn really sharply. Things i would like to learn are ride backwards so if anyone could sent some info my way that would be great. thanks for all you time… HONTO
Welcome! Good to have another member of this deadly legion of unicyclists.
Hi, and welcome.
Riding backwards is a skill that goes well with idling (rocking back and forth more or less on the spot) and with the roll back freemount.
If you can ride forwards confidently, learn to stop, then continue, without dismounting.
Then learn to stop, ride back a half revolution, then ride forwards.
Then build up from there.
The basic for idling and reversing is to look at a distant point, not at the floor immediaely in front of you.
And be smooth.
And try the tutorials page of the forum:

And there will be many items in RSU on the subject. Try the search facility.
Hey, Honto.
I live in Matawan a little less than an hour north of you.
Couple of things you should know. Usually in June there is a ride from one end of LBI to the other. I don’t have dates yet, but there is some general info at LBI Unithon. It’s a fun event and will give you a chance to meet some other riders.
Also, and though it’s a bit of a hike for you, you should check out the NY Unicycle Club. As it happens they’re meeting tomorrow. I usually make one or two meetings during the summer.
