No. Sound is only produced when vibrations hit the ear, and our brains intrepret them as sound. If a tree falls in the woods, and no one is around to hear it, it will produce vibrations in the air, but no sound.

Yes. If no one hears it, it still produces sound. Sound is the time-space variation of density in a medium caused by a mechanical disturbance. The people definition of sound (and people think they are pretty important) is actually their perception or ability to perceive sound.
