As im sitting here enjoying my ice cream float i was thinking,“hey…i wonder if the guys on the fora liek em too?” so i logged on and decided to find out. For those of you who do not kno what an ice cream float is…i feel sorry for you! But its just a few scoops of ice cream floating in a big glass(or mug in my case) of soda.
So if you have had one(or 20) and you like them, whats your favourite mix?(what kind of ice cream with what kind of soda) Mine is diet pepsi with chocolate ice cream mmmmm!Delicious!
My favorite combination is Henry Weinhard’s Root Beer and Häagen-Dazs vanilla or Häagen-Dazs vanilla bean ice cream. That is the only way to make a proper root beer float. Everything else is not worthy.
I nearly barfed while reading all those recipes
(no kidding: the very idea of root beer makes my tummy jump, adding Ice cream on top just send all my digestive agents run for cover:( )
what about an irish coffee to replace those awfull mixtures?
There is no soda that compares to Vernor’s. It is top-o-da-heap as far as sodas go!
When I was growing up and Vernor’s wasn’t available in the local market, every New Year’s my family would stay up until midnight and drink black cows (root beer floats) or pink ladies (red pop floats) to celebrate. Great family memories.
Premium root beer is tasty.
Bad root beer and artificially flavored root beer is nasty stuff.
If you have only been able to try the bad stuff then it is no wonder you can’t stomach the thought of it. Is it even possible to find good root beer in Europe? I suspect that trying to find good root beer in Europe would be like trying to find Marmite in the US.
If you drink enough beer things definitely start to float, like your eyeballs as your bladder fills up. I don’t like those kinds of beer floats.
I tried a Guinness float once with vanilla Häagen-Dazs and Guinness draft from a can. I’d rather have the Guinness and the ice cream separately. The ice cream doesn’t improve the Guinness experience. Root beer floats are much better.
That’s great! I have so many memories of my Detroit Gramma associated with Vernor’s. I remember walking by the Vernor’s bottling company on Woodward with my family. We hiked from the Reniassance Center to the Detroit Institute of Arts one day, passing both White Castle and Vernor’s.
