I’m thinking of buying the Poznanter hub and cranks from unicycle.com and I just have a few things I’d have to get out of the way before I bought them. I live in Australia and shipping actually brings this price up to US$377.75 so that’s US$78.75 for shipping.
Unicycle.com seems to have a few complaints on these forums with them getting things wrong, like giving people to right/left cranks or sending things already broken, and yes I now that you send it back and then you get what you’re supposed to. But if that happens, yould unicycle.com pay for the shipping costs, I’d rather not spend an extra US$150 if they stuffed up the order. So yeah, would unicycle.com pay for the shipping if they messed up?
I can answer this question, as it just happened to me with profile cranks. I received my hub and crank and found that the left cranks splines were just a little bit off so the cranks were a bit crooked on the hub. I couldnt tell the difference while riding but i figured that for 300 this shouldnt happen. So I called them and they sent me a new crank VERY fast. I never got a shipping charge. As for returning the broken crank. They included in the box return postage things. They are good about this. Go for the hub/cranks, its worth it they are gorgeous.
That is something that you should ask Unicycle.com (USA). For an order going to Australia you could ask them for special treatment to make sure the order is correct (double checked, triple checked) and that the parts have been inspected before shipping to make sure they’re not defective. Email them and ask what they can do.
What about getting stuff from unicycle.co.nz? I’d contact them first to see what they’ve got and what they plan on getting in the near future. Might save you the trouble of trying to work with Unicycle.com USA half-way around the globe.
Consider waiting to see what the new KH hub/cranks are like. They may be a better option given the cost. Maybe Unicycle.com NZ might be able to get the new KH stuff?
There is also The Gap. Looks like they can get Profiles in Australia.
Thanks alot guys for all this help, especially fluffinator, that’s what I needed to hear. As for unicycle.co.nz they don’t seem to have them and I’ve found things there are pretty much like they’ve imported it from unicycle.com and added the shipping price onto the cost and then I’d still need to have it shipped from there. As for the gap… I’m know andrew_carter pretty well, but the profiles there seem to be more expensive than if I got it shipped from unicycle.com, I’m not quite sure whether this is an error. Plus I’m pretty much really looking at the lifetime warranty they have on them, that’s on think that really drew me to them.
Thanks guys you’ve been a big help, I’ve just been looking at this because I sought of put together a ‘shopping cart’ that would build my dream unicycle. It seems to me that it’d be pretty indestructible. The only thing I’m not sure about is the frame. In the trials frame section there seems to be limited choice. There’s a $500 one, the $150 one (which seems ok) and then the rest are like $40 - $55. With the unicycle I currently have the frame is the only part I havn’t had any problems with, I was just wondering how important it is for a trials unicycle. Is it something that I can really break?
Oh yes, the frame can definitly brake. Especially in trials with jumping and dropping and twisting and just getting it banged up a lot. Well i guess that happens in all areas of uni. Id go with perhaps the KH trials frame. Fairly reasonably priced ( shipping? ) and its real real sturdy. But there are other alternatives as well. If you have the money you could go with a more expensive frame too. Or if your lacking money the yuni / nimbus frames are prety strong. A lot of people have been using them recently.
I dont know if I’ve ever heard of anyone breaking any production frames (besides ones with lollypop bearing holders). I have heard of people breaking welds on prototypes and I’m sure it “could” happen but I think the frame is probably way over built on alot of unicycles like the hunter, KH or GB4. Spending alot of money on a custom made frame is probably the last part I would spend money on when building up a unicycle.
The Seat base, bumbers, cover, the seat post rail adapter if its there, pedals, cranks, hub, spokes, rim, tire, tube all will probably break sooner than even a cheap frame with maincaps. Spend your money on the wheel and seat and if you have some left over then look at getting a $$$ frame.
Thanks guys, dam those profiles just look so nice. A guy can really spend alot of money on a unicycle. The custom one I want is like 900 australian dollars, but the shipping brings it up to like 1,300 australian dollars.
