Help! How do I save my butt

Bout to embark on 135 miles next week on my 36er, ive done a 79 mile ride before on my 27 and the butt chaffing was horrible, are there any good tips, i usually wear padded cycling shorts and use butt cream on longer rides but that didnt seem to help, this time i have bought some memory foam to try out. Any tips are muchly appreciated

Welcome. Your profile picture shows no handlebar on your 36”. I would highly recommend a handlebar for increased comfort as you will put some of your weight on your hands/wrist by doing so.
Another option (that has worked great for myself) is to use an ISM (split nose) bike saddle and a custom handlebar setup. It provides good weight distribution and has reduced the chaffing of the saddle to a minimum. Lots of great ideas in this post your homemade handlebars here!

I see you have a stadium saddle. I own one and don’t feel they are very comfortable at all in fact it is sitting in my parts bin not being used. Seeing that you have ridden much farther than I ever have you can take my advise with a grain of salt. I advocate on this forum for the nimbus air cover, I have one on each of my unicycle that I ride longer distances on.
I love them and for $50 each find them a great solution. As I always say, it will make any saddle more comfortable. Other than that I like Kris Holme saddles I have the street and free ride saddles on my unis.

And you even have a handlebar setup that makes it an easy conversion as it’s attached to the seat post (and not directly to the saddle).
I recommend getting a bike seat post with double bolts so you have infinite adjustability like this (compared to those single bolt that usually can only be adjusted in fixed positions). You will lose some control by using a regular bike saddle as you are not able to control the unicycle with your tights - but in my opinion that is also the biggest advantage as there are reduced chaffing of your tights. For road riding with both hand on the handle it’s not much of an issue but freemounting can be sketchy initially :blush:
…also consider wrapping that poor handlebar in some hockey tape for a bit or protection and a bit or comfort for your hands (you can of course also use bike bar tape but it is usually quite fragile/“not UPD friendly” and way more expensive)

It definitely makes long distance easier on the butt, but harder on the arms. You need fairly constant pressure to keep yourself in the saddle.

For me, I’ve mostly settled on the Mad4One handle saddles. The medium has just enough control for my thighs and less chafing; the long has less thigh control but feels pretty much the same. Neither really feels like I’m slipping off the way the bike saddles do.

You might try doubling up the bike shorts. I usually wear 2 pairs of gel shorts - one backward - along with butt butter.

Ohh double shorts! Nice, everything seems to be a compromise on a uni :joy: in regards to the extra pressure on the arms

Shorter cranks can also improve your long distance comfort. Because with shorter cranks you are able to put more pressure on the pedals and relieve some pressure of your butt. But experimenting with crank length just before a long trip is probably not the best idea :blush:

I agree, the 125s that come with it seem to be a good size, im used to 150s on a 27 so that initially took some getting used to, but yeah you feel far less movement in the legs

@Bryan_Davies a Nimbus Air Saddle cover fits the stadium saddle and very comfy to ride. I dont do distance riding but have friends that do, and they use these.

That looks plush, :ok_hand: ill get one for future rides, atm im using the ol double bike shorts :sweat_smile: as im already on a bus to my start point
