Hi, I’m Jon (not pete). I’m in Massachusetts and I’m about 4 months into unicycling.
Currently working on building up to do longer distance (farthest I’ve gone is 4 miles) on my 29" and occasionally working on going backwards or idling on my 24".

Welcome to the forum!
You are on a nice level, the world of unicycling is open for you. Are you able to idle / idle mount without having the ability to ride backwards yet? How do you mount your 29"?
I can’t really idle at all yet. For going backwards I start by holding onto something then pushing off a bit, so far my best is about 15 feet. To get on my 29 I just do the static mount which I can land about 95% of the time
Welcome to the forum.
Sounds like you’re ready for light to moderate trail riding. That’s where the fun is hiding.
95% success to mount a 29" is very good. When I have the skill for 99% (i.e. on a 19") my concentration drops and I mount the lazy way i.e. mounting on bad pedal positions, so I end up at 95% again.
Hey Jon. That sounds great.
Yes, idiling and backwards riding are complementary so practing one a bit and then the other can be helpful. Usually idiling progresses faster a riding more than a few revs backwards can be scary. But sounds like you’re doing well backwards. Another good learning tool is “super” idiling where you go 2 revs back, 2 revs forward, 2 revs back, then switch to the other foot. And then after a while try backwards again.
Massachusetts has some decent trails for muni if you progress some more (I didn’t unicycle back when I lived there but rode the mountain bike). Some of the trails are a bit rocky so start on some of the smoother tracks.
And perfect strategy with the smaller uni for learning skills and the larger for distance.
