Hello, my name is Buket. Iam 30 years old and I live in The north of Germany, in a small village near Lüneburg, which is near Hamburg.
I am most of the time outside, barefoot (not in winter), exploring nature, wondering about all beauty, riding my unicycle to unknown places, love sleeping outside, foraging stuff, climbing trees, do art and do my work which is plastering houses with clay/mud and lime.
I Love to have found this page, since I would like to find someone to cycle together with. I met 2 person’s in my life who are riding big unis. One older men in south Germany and one guy from Hamburg I found via Facebook years ago but I lost his contact.
Sooooooo If anyone here from around 29450 Germany, I would Love to meet up and just cruise a bit, for one day or some in row. I Love to ride my 36 Kris Holm Uni the most! Right now I am working out a good set up for my upcoming big tour.
Love this page, there is so much usefully Information from cool people. Unicyclers are cool and little crazy people who chasing adrenaline from time to time. Unicycling makes me feel alive. And I Love that.
Hi @Buket,
I live in Winsen. I watched many outdoor survival videos over the last winter time, so your interests sound interesting. We can certainly meet some time.
Feeling alone to ride? I spontaneously thought of this:
In former times we joined the critical mass in Hamburg by unicycle, what is also available in Lüneburg.
In Hamburg there are 500-6000 bicycle riders every last friday of the month having the right to ride on the street as one vehicle. That means i.e. that the first one crosses green traffic lights and 5999 follow at any color of the traffic lights.
It is a free bicycle meeting and the route is spontaneously defined by the first riders. Anyhow in Hamburg the police is omnipresent on motorcycle and followed by a car, so the first one won’t dare to cross red traffic lights.
If the route is decided as you ride then what stops them from riding in a perpetual circle? Is the answer answer not being dumb Americans? I bet it is.
Very cool! On 29.08. it is in Bonn, where i could join. Do you know whether the uni must be equipped to go as bycicle (e.g. with bell, etc.) ? Or is that irrelevant with critical mass is reached?
Short answer: I suggest yes, for your safety.
Long answer:
I saw inline skaters, skate board riders etc. The police doesn’t have the time to say anything. But there are always crazy people. I remember one bicyclist standing crossways in the middle of the street and letting pass hundreds of participants to both sides. I was in 2nd gear 36" and saw him late. I got around him, but others? Another time on the ‘Sternfahrt’ with thousands of bicycles, on the way downhills of the giant Köhlbrand-bridge we were at top speed. A bicycle rider was overtaking us with a trailer, went back into line and totally didn’t think about his extra length. The trailer was about to ram my 36" companion rider @enaddi, but she made use of the brake at top speed- respect!
So I like the brake.
The light shows of the riders are gorgeous! As it starts late it gets dark quickly. Lights are essential especially when riding home from the CM. The problem is that I ride like 50km at very low speed on a CM, where a companion helps a lot for stillstands and walking speed. It all takes several hours and the battery for the lights doesn’t last that long. So even though there was a police motorcycle next to me, I turned off the light in order to have light when riding home. Sometimes we wear reflective vests.
The bell is used at the start of the CM. Afterwards you won’t hear it because the music bikes are much louder.
Thank you for that information! I’m starting to notice the more I dive into unicycling in the world wide web the more I notice there is soooo many people having that hobby in all variations. Even around me.
Hi, thanks for pointing out that event. Did not know it happens in Lüneburg every month.
My focus right now is on riding as much km as I can on possibly new terrain and conditions every time. I can very well imagine making a trip to Winsen some time. It’s 69 km from my village. I could do it comfortably in 2 days or push real hard and do it in one. Critical mass is very powerfull event, I do not know much about it. Is it also sometimes used politically. Like for demonstrating or for bringing awareness to certain world issue?
Many thanks for info. So I will first join with my bike to get a feeling whether it is possible for me to join with uni.
*I like such events. I took part in Skating Bonn some years ago and it was great fun to skate with hundreds of people while the streets where blocked for other traffic.
They say “we aren’t hindering traffic, we are traffic” in a slightly demonstrative way. I agree with the sentence, but I simply do what I do and don’t demonstrate anything. It is really cool to officially ride on the main car roads of your main city though
As for riding capabilities, you’re free. Join as far as you like, 100m, 1km,all. It starts at walking speed, what is not easy to ride, but hey, you could join with 20" as well. With 36" be aware of the deeply rutted roads when you cross mayor roads. You don’t see them and it caused an UPD right at the end of a CM for me.
I’m not a fan of such events or demonstrations. I don’t even have time for them and I spend my time elsewhere. Besides, the commute is simply too long for me.
I would think only the first one is in trouble, as he is the driver. All the others are passengers in the vehicle, and passengers are of course not to blame for crossing a red light
