Hello from northern Sweden!

Hello everyone!

I’m Marc, a university student from northern Sweden. I got into unicycling in August 2024 after some frustrating bike thefts first my front wheel was stolen, then the entire bike disappeared. I figured if thieves are determined to take my wheels, I might as well ride something with only one wheel that I can lock up completely with just one lock and easily carry inside when needed. And now I’m hooked.

My first unicycle was a Trainer 32", but without success finding 32" studded tires for winter commuting, I bought a Nimbus Hatchet 29". Now I ride this Hatchet nearly everywhere I go, from commuting trips to forest rides. I also own a Huni-Rex with low mileage as it was bought just before winter/snow season.

Welcome to the forum! :slightly_smiling_face: Did you learn to ride on a 32" wheel? How did that go?

Yes I did! It went well!

I started in a corridor in my apartment building, spending about 45 minutes unicycling with walls I could bounce from. Then later that evening, I used a long fence around a “Friidrottsarena” (some sort of track and field stadium) to learn to balance. After around 2 more hours (excluding breaks I took during the day), I was able to start riding most of the time for shorter distances.

It took me another week to achieve 1 in 10 successful mounts while freemounting, and that was enough for me to start commuting to the university. Since then, I’ve been unicycling nearly everywhere I go.

There are many ways to become a unicyclist. This is a very particular and (except for the stolen equipment) funny one.
The Hatchet certainly was a wise move for winter riding. :+1:
