Yeah.
may your birthday be happy and your presents be pleasant
Birthdays are good for your health. Statistics show that the people who have the most live the longest!
Happy Birthday, old heathy one!
Greetings from me.
Oooh, I just thought of this as a birthday wish: “May the Woodford be unreserved”.
Happy BD TB!
Any Uni presents this year?
Happy birthday!!!
Tom started riding a few years ago and quickly became interested in Cokers and distance. He was the slow one in our rather large group and someone always hung back and rode with him on distance rides to keep him company and make sure he didn’t try to exceed a reasonable pace just to keep up. That was four or five years ago.
Three weeks ago, Tom finished 125 miles of the 150 mile ride for MS on a Coker. He was the only unicyclist. Out of some 18,000 riders he finished last in time and 11th in fund raising. This is the second year he has done it.
I got to go on an 18 mile ride with him last week. We did a big, 300 foot, steep climb at the end of the ride with switchbacks and some turnoffs up the bluff from Shilshole Marina in Seattle to Sunset View Park. At the bottom I described the layout of the path and where it ended. I knew I wasn’t going to be keeping up with him and didn’t want him to turn off where I couldn’t see him or make him stop and wait for me.
He passed me after the first 90 degree turn. One of the coolest things I have seen in my life was Tom Blackwood’s back fading away from me as he spread the gap between us on that hill. At one of the switchbacks I lost sight of him entirely.
Happy Birthday, mountain-goat man.
Thanks for the birthday wishes everyone. I spent most of today shivering in Safeco Field at our annual company meeting, but now I get to go have a nice dinner with my Marie and Miles. Perhaps a tip o’ the old Woodford too since GILD was kind enough to plant the thought in my head.
Harper, thanks for your note too. While unicycling is a fairly late in life sport for me, I’ve been a skier almost since I could walk. One thing I learned in skiing I applied to unicycling: If you want to get faster and better, you need to try to hang with the folks that are much more advanced than you are, so you’ll have good examples and will push yourself. I’ve been chasing the Seattle Area Riders around for years now, and it’s fun to be able to catch one occassionally.
PS: I truly hope that the MS-150 will one day have 18,000 riders. That will be a great day for the charity. But this year was just over 1,000. It was the Portland Bridge Pedal with 18K. I get my stories confused, then confuse those I ride with.
Off for that drink now…
happy b-day!!
We need an annual birthday tradition for Tom. Something like an annual Ride 'n Feed that he hosts. That would be a happy festive birthday tradition.
Happy Birthday!
Tom Blackwood ,this is your life
Nonsense. I arrived in that condition.
This is a great idea. Are you available tomorrow? We could meet at Tom’s at about 11 or so? One of us should call him to get him to start cooking and planning a ride.
I’m there!
