I grind back foot and I am trying to get more speed, I have tried going faster, landing softer on the ledge, and waxing the ledge and my crank, non of them have worked. I have heard that front foot grinding can be faster, though front foot is hard for me because I would have less balance because of the foot I have in the front when jumping is the same side as the hand I use to grip my seat, which would cause a weight imbalance. Any ideas?
I don’t grind.
There is no “weight imbalance”, your body just doesn’t know how to deal with the mechanics so it feels awkward.
Get used to the asymmetry and your body will adapt by getting stronger and more efficient.
Better yet, learn how to ride and perform tricks ambidextrously and this wouldn’t be a problem.
Then you could grip or grind with any hand or foot forward or back.
Do you thing I should I learn how to stall with my front foot, or should I head straight into front foot grinds?
Can’t hurt to learn some stalls/pedal grabs on that side first.
I stuck to back foot grinds, because as with you, that works out better with the hand I prefer having on the seat. When I learned, that was more or less the prevailing wisdom. Nowadays, I’d probably take inspiration from Mimo, I think he demonstrates that you can become proficient with pretty much any stance.
