grind gaurds for trials?

has anybody seen the grind gaurds that bmxers use to protect thier spokes?

for them when they do grinds but for us its going to protect the spokes and hub flange during grabs

at http://www.snafubmx.com/pages/products.html#
or http://homepage.ntlworld.com/george.french1/otherparts/gland.html

i might look into getting a g-sport gland, if for no other reason than the overly sugestive name,

it’d probably fit in between the flying saucers on the profile hub
.

They look cool.

Something I have in the pipeline is a bearing holder mounted grind guard and also a pedal plate.

theirs annother grind guard at

that looks no good,
and more here without pictures.

but heres something more interesting:

using a cd as a gaurd? i think i might try it.,

before i go and remove my profile cranks i’ll try an cut a slot in the cd and stick it on, technicaly i only need my grab side protected (lefthand back side). so i might end up cutting a bigger slot out and then using zipties to keep it from getting in the way of anything.

drill out the CD and it doubles as a disk brake

i made a grab gaurd out of a cd,
have a look…

its just a prototype but it might inspire somthing better when i find out whats wrong with it.

if it works it’ll save me tightening up my spokes so often.

i havent tried it yet because its 3:14 am and the streets are full of nutcases
expect a report over the weekend.

Re: grind gaurds for trials?

Did anyone had problems with destroying the wheelset while grinding or
grapping?

yes, i bend my spokes i havent broken a wheelset yet but i do have to tighten my spokes fairly often.

i do loads of grabs and a couple of times i’ve whacked spokes trying to grab onto less than ideal surfaces and had to re-true my wheel, hopefully if i find a solution i won’t need to worry so much about my very expensive hub,

grabbing onto nice ordinary wooden bences doesent bend your spokes, however grabbing onto bad surfaces, things get a bit more stressfull on the unicycle

remember that the only part of the profile hub that is not covered by a lifetime warranty is the hub shell, this is the part that takes the stress when the spokes hit somtthing.apart from the spokes themselves, which get bent and start needing to be tightened more often

my experiments with grind gaurds come from the my experience of things getting bent and scuffed and then having to be fixed

but does anybody else suffer the same problem?

I was contemplating the idea of modifying a “simulated brake disc” from a pair of hubcaps for a car to fit my Uni wheel.

i’ve spoken to george from g-sport bmx and i’m going to get a g.l.a.n.d.
(Grinds Lovely Anti-Nagging Device.)

p.s. theres some more pictures in my galery, i tried out the cd gaurd and as a prototype it worked perfectly,
that is, it broke.

at least i know that the spokes could benifit from a bit of protection.

as well as protecting my spokes and hub i’ve been thinking about grinding with the spokes like bmx freestylers do. this would enable me to do it with out worrying so much about my expensive hub flanges.
at £10 the g-sport g.l.a.n.d. is fairly cheep.

i’ll post a full evaluation when i get it.
