Gallery temporarily disabled

I think the gallery is the cause of the server problems that caused many outages over the past few days. Therefore, I have temporarily disabled it to test out whether this is the case. I’ll enable it again tomorrow, probably after doing lots of software upgrades.

Time for a new round of 'Thanx Gilby’s.

And so say all of us…

You’re right. Thanks, Gilby, for making this site possible and maintaining it so well. We all benefit from this service you provide for us. Isn’t there a DONATE button somewhere around this site?

thank you gilby for maintaining this site and stuff

Thank you SO much Gilby, without you I would be sad :frowning:

But seriously, you are the greatest guy in the world.

Mike

Yes, I BELIEVE there is.

Gallery temporarily display challenged

I think you meant to say, “Therefore, I have temporarily made it display challenged…”

I prefer “Functionally disadvantaged”…

Phil

Akin to keeping a fresh pot of coffee on the warming plate, Gilby performs an essential function in keeping Unicyclist.com online for all of us forum junkies. Thanks, Dude! YOU’RE AWESOME!

I tried to donate beer, but Gilby turned it down.

Here it is …

I keep forgetting, is this site free as in beer or free as in speech?

thank you gilby!
i hope he doesnt realize its really cause of MR cause then he might shut that down!

Thank you Gilby! Can I donate rubber bands? I have a lot of rubber bands…

Does this explain why the gallery was just sitting there when I was trying to upload stuff a week or so ago?

Yeah, who knew that life would get in the way of doing this… just a week before nationals here so it’s quite hectic, and unfourtunately I won’t get to it tonight. I’m fairly confident that the gallery is the problem. It might be as simple as a memory setting in the server, but nonetheless, there is an upgrade to the gallery software that I will install as well.

The problem I’ve had is that the httpd deamon would consume a lot of memory. It would consume the 2 GB of RAM, and then consume the swapspace… which when active memory starts going into swapspace, it slows the whole system down. It hasn’t happened since I disabled the gallery.

Roger? You listening? If you want to set up some commission thing to support unicyclist.com, please let me know.

Back in service… though, I don’t think the problem is actually fixed so I added a safeguard in there that will disable the gallery if the server load is too high and hopefully prevent the gallery from taking down the server.

FIREFOX now wants me to download a plug-in it can’t find to watch videos in the gallery.

Would there be any reason for this?

I dont know

Thanks for that helpful answer. Please see this thread.
