Depending on which Nimbus you’re talking about, that doesn’t sound very freestyle-specific to me.
The syms look like they would get in the way on a lot of freestyle things for a minimal benefit in just a couple tricks/transitions, and are probably heavier than I would like.
Most important thing on a freestyle besides seat and tire: Light pedals
I woudnt buy the koxx signature. I talked with Gilles (world pairfreestyle champion) he broke the frame two times and never got any guarantee from koxx. Felix Dietzes frame has also a cut and will probably break soon.
Without going custom the Nimbus X trials is probably your best bet. In fact I know Tony’s custom freestyle frame is pretty much the design that was used for the Nimbus X prototype.
I think you would find this frame superior to the Miyata for stand up skills. If you are really keen on miyatas still and want a long neck miyata frame, I’ve got one lying around which might suit you. Paul Wyganowski extended it for me
The Nimbus X Freestyle is a very good freestyle unicycle. As Peter said my red unicycle which you’ve seen before is one of the prototypes for the Nimbus X. I’ve been very happy with my red freestyle uni so far (6 years and counting…)
No, that wouldn’t be good. Isis street cranks are much to long and perhaps too heavy.
You should get a semcycle XL longneck frame, that’s for sure. I would recommend an Alex Xrim, any type of spokes(titanium if you wish to be fancy and stronger), any isis hub, a kh street saddle, Primo The wall 1.85 tire, and either k1 freestyle cranks or quax 102mm freestyle cranks.
If you don’t feel like throwing parts together like this, and want a serious unicycle, I would suggest the K1 signature, though I can’t say I’ve ever ridden it it seems really nice.
The problem is that there are currently no ISIS cranks shorter than 100mm available. So currently ISIS is no option for me. I got some very nice cottorless aluminum cranks from Japan on my Suzue hub, but I am not sure how long these cranks will last.
The Koxx light 90mm cranks might work, but it is risky and the inserts might loosen. The nimbus frame is not bad, but I did not like it for standup stuff. I have not tried the Semcycle frame, but it seems to be quite good. The signature frame just breaks.
Quite frankly, there is no really good freestyle available on the market today. All manufacturers apart from Koxx seem uninterested in offering a high quality freestyle, and Koxx just screwed it up (they are too busy thinking about new color combinations…).
So thats my opinion The Nimbus is probably a safe bet for starters.
Peter that long neck miyata frame you have laying around is that of the “standard” miyata ? rather then the “deulux” miyata because “delux” crown is not flat… and that nimbus one the crown on that looks kinda rounded I mean it looks flat but is it flat in every sense of the word… and if not is that a problem ?
also how do people feel about wight I know I only ever considered strength when picking freestyle parts
I have no problem buiding one up from scratch
but a ready made good one would be nice
I don’t ask for much I just want a freestyle unicycle that wont brake (too easy) and is good for all of the advanced skills …
heres a question are there any decent unicycle seats that don’t fold in half after doing sideride out of the box ?
or is carbon fiber really the only true option ?.. and is it possiable to buy a seat already fitted with a carbon fiber seat base ? or do i have to go though all of that all over again ?
ps
i managed to score a primo the wall from some bike shop for $30
I honestly think that there is not a single part on the Koxx Signature that is robust enough for serious freestyle. The frame will break first from what I have heard. The wheelset would probably be next (only 36 spokes and a drilled rim…).
And the seat does not even have a CF base.
Like most Koxx products the Signature only makes sense if you have too much money and value looks more than function.
(O.K. if you are young and don’t and weight under 50 kg it might last longer.)
