Are you looking for website builders or website hosters? Unicyclist.com hosts websites for free. The best free website host that I have found is Portland Communications in the UK. They offer ftp batch uploading rather than file by file which is a pain.

Free website builders I take to mean programs that produce html markup from click and drop menus. The obvious free ones are the ones that come with Netscape (Composer) and Microsoft front page express.

www.freewebs.com - Both the sites in my signature are hosted uisng this site. They’re really good, you can do everything (editing etc) straigt through them and its really easy. They have an option were you can choose some of their cool templates, or make your own site using HTML and they’ll host it for you.

hardcorecoders.net
you have to make like 30 posts but its totaly adfree and if you have a domain name they can host that too!
the more post you make the better plan you get.

I’ve had good results with

and

I’m currently using geocities (http://www.geocities.com/unicuber - pluggage :D) and it’s perdy darned good.

Yep. Alot of your picture links are dead which made me sad because i wanted to see all your cubes. Where can you buy a cube these days?

Ooops, you’re right, I’ll see if I can find those and upload them again. Or just take new pictures…

aaanyway, you can either get a cube off the internet (http://www.rubiks.com), where I usually get them, or in some hobby stores, or WalMart, but WalMart is evil, so don’t do that one.

Why are they evil?

They are obliterating small businesses everywhere. Also, that smiley is too damn happy. He’s hiding something.

Exactly. Read the book 'Wal Mart is Destroying America." I think that’s what it’s called. I read it at my local bike store, for some reason they have it sitting on their counter.

I’ve seen documentaries about Walmart, but i don’t buy the argument that they are destroying america.

Me neither, but the fact is that every time a new one is built, about 30-40something% of all the small businesses in that town go out of business within the next year. Soo…

Soo… a few people lose their job, unless they got a good niche, good customer service, or competitive advantage. Many others get jobs and many more get cheaper goods and more goods.

well, the general argument is that money taken in by a local business will be spent back into the community, while the money will go elsewhere with a Walmart. Of course, one can argue whether this is a good or a bad thing.

Community… the community is a global market now days.

probably not for the small bussiness person who’s, post Walmart, stuck in his small town without an income

The problem with walmart as I see it is a vast network of problems,

  • the local business that get put under, now when this is done fairly I cant argue with it too much, the problem comes in when walmart moves into an area, cuts profit margins to sometimes negative amounts in order to take customers and put other businesses out, and then raises prices back up to free market values or higher. Its nice to be a big corperate entity sometimes you can take a loss at one location and use the profits from others to even things out.

  • Walmart neglects their means of production. Walmart while claiming to support made in the US products really is the largest purchesor of goods from china. Often the textiles and other goods that are comming out of factories in china under virtual sweat shop conditions. Walmart with their billions of dollars a year are one of the few companies who could make a difference in bringing these very places up to humane standards but neglects to “roll back” the prices instead by continually trying to get producers to make product at less cost.

  • Walmart deals with many other smaller producers to provide goods at its stores. These producers are often coerced into contracts where walmart is their #1 buyer taking 60-90% of their total output. When walmart see’s it fit to re negotiate these contracts often they demand price breaks with the threat of dropping a company. This is not an option for these smaller business who are virtually put out of business if they loose over half of their sales.

  • Walmart continually is involved in discrimination lawsuits with its workers involving things such as unfair promotions based on sex and race, as well as issues of locking empoyee’s into locations and forcing them to work unpaid overtime.

  • Walmart refuses to grant empoyee’s healthcare who work for the comapny less than 2 years, forcing empoyees without health coverage, and onto govenrment health plans.

  • Walmart recently took out life insurance on a few hundred thousand empoyee’s in which they named walmart the sole beneficiary. This was of course not with the empoyee’s concent.

There is more reasons why walmart is a bad corperation but for me it basically comes down to the fact that they neglect the means of production and focus on the ends ( the $$$)

Keep in mind that of the 10 richest people in the world, five are Waltons.

S. Robson Walton is ranked by London’s “Rich List 2001” as the wealthiest human on the planet, having sacked up more than $65 billion (£45.3 billion) in personal wealth and topping Bill Gates as No. 1. His anual salary is more than that of 700 of his average workers salaries…
