Free mount

What is the easiest type of free mount to learn? Rolling, jumping, or static? I learned with my right foot lower holding onto a wall. Should the pedals be parallel to the ground? If so, which of my feet should be in front?

Thanks

Static is probably the easiest for 24". Pedals roughly parallel to the ground. You’ll just have to try out which foot feels better for mounting.

I use static mount for all and the hind pedal slightly lower than the front pedal, so as I mount, I have enough rotation downward for the front pedal to push off as soon as I sit. Like you I put my right foot first. Sometimes I try left foot first but that feels very strange.

I use also the Static mount. The right foot is for me the best foot but you can also try it with the left foot. Feel free to change a running System.

Static mount for me as well. Cranks parallel to the ground with the right pedal towards me.

The static mount is when you have the seat between your legs, one foot on the bottom pedal, and you quickly put your other foot on the top pedal and ride off, right? If so, that is the only free mount in my 2 years of riding I have learned.

For me, I find that jump mounting a 36" using the brake is very easy, but likely takes the most energy. With the brake locked I can firmly hold the seat handle with both hands and pull/push myself up with my arms. The brake holds the wheel fixed, that is a problem for other mounts.
For new riders, shorter riders or really old riders like me it may be something to try. It seems to be very easy to learn, I just went for it and was successful with no real learning curve. The key is just to go for it and keep an eye on the pedals till the feet are planted. It also does not really matter what foot is forward or back.

On my 24", I started out with a static mount where one pedal is up and the other is down. Now I find it easier to do the parallel pedal mount, with my right foot on the back pedal, my left on the front.
Really, there’s no right or wrong way to free mount.
