I have a stray that showed up at my house on Sunday. She was looking
pretty rough and dehydrated and now that I’ve fed her and given her some
attention it doesn’t appear that she’s leaving. I already have two large dogs
though and don’t really care to have a third. Anyway she’s a great looking dog
and will only look better once she puts on a little bit more weight. She
gets along well with my other dogs, other than the typical first time “who’s
the boss” snarl-fest they are all hanging out and being buds. She is a
little timid and skittish like she didn’t come from the best surroundings but
the last couple days she has gotten MUCH better and is almost acting 100% at
ease as of this morning. I’d guess her age to be about 12-24 months.
She has a great demeanor and I don’t feel uneasy around her in the
slightest, she’s a very sweet affectionate dog. All she needs now is a permanent
home with loving and caring owners that will give her the attention she
deserves.
Like I said I don’t want another dog however I refuse to take her to the
pound where she’ll end up on death-row, so until I find her a home it looks
like I have 3 mouths to feed.

You could take the dog to your local clinic or pound and see if the dog is microchipped. Its free of charge and I know here in Canada all pounds by law should have the microchip scanner. You never know, there could be someone looking desperately for her. Also, put as many signs up as possible, pet food stores, vet clinics, training halls etc. Dont sell her on eBay, you never know who she would go to. I can only picture experimental labs and the like. Id take her, but I already have four and I think Spickydoo wouldnt like having to sleep on the couch LOL:(
Chipping dogs is not common practice out in the rural area where I live so I doubt she is chipped. Besides most people that would take time to have a chip put on their dog would surely put a collar with id on them as well.
I would just take her to the animal shelter and see if she would get adopted before her “deposition date” came up (and then simply adopt her if nobody else would/did). The problem is that since she doesn’t have a rabies vaccine id on her the shelter will just put her down right away. No vaccine id = no chance.
I have let the local branch of the humane society know that I have her so if someone tries to look for her they are one of the first places that would get called.

I have my 2nd cat microchipped, but when I got my 3rd cat, they said that wasn’t a common practice anymore, something about the chips not staying in place.
I do know that ol’ #2 was chipped, had a collar, but got away one time though an open door. Even if the dog ‘owns’ a collar, it doesn’t mean he’s wearing it.

My old pal, Max, who had the talent to slip out from under the backyard fence and wander off for a stroll, also had the ability to dump his collar, along with his I.D. and my address and phone number. But I had my S.S. # tattooed inside his ear.
Thanks to his schnoz, and the kind people at The Pet Pad in Shadyside (Pittsburgh), he usually wound up at their counter, mooching pooch snacks, content to hang out until I got home from work and got their phone message that he was waiting for me at the pet shop.
Honestly, zod, that’s a good-looking mutt you’ve got there! I’m sure that sooner or later, somebody other than your Missus will claim or adopt her!
In the meantime, check the local pounds and the Animal Rescue League or the local A.S.P.C. A.
