You’re a braver man than me to ride in London, considering the city is a bloodbath lately with a heap of cyclists being killed in the last couple of weeks alone. ![]()
London’s policy towards cyclists is a disgrace.
any recommendations on where to mount the bell. i ride without a handlebar and the brake mount already has a light attached to it
thanks
There is a video out there, of a guy in Japan going through crowded places using a bike bell strapped on his wrist like a watch. He was showing the effectiveness of such a bell, at least in places/cultures where people know the sound. He had a head-mounted camera and held up the bell each time he rang it, showing people crowding over to the side even in narrow, tight walkways! It’s a pretty funny video.
So that’s a place to put it if your uni doesn’t have any convenient locations. ![]()
Found it! Correction: he’s got the bell on his finger, which requires no additional hardware:
Not all pedestrians are as familiar with bike bells than urban Japanese, perhaps, but you get the idea. NOTE: The people are moving to the left because, like the UK, Japanese drive on the “wrong” side of the road.
How about inventing a red clown’s nose which also doubles as a horn when you squeeze it :D?
There ya go, corrected that one for ya ![]()
Pretty funny video really. Not that many people commute on bikes in my area, at least not to the same degree as the likes of London so I’m not sure how well a bell would work.
The missus has a bell on her bike, when she uses it most pedestrians just get a fright (the cyclist know what it means at least) so found its usually better to just say 'scuse me as you coming up on them
No, no! You misunderstand the point of using a bell. It is to provide stimulation and excitement to pedestrians for your amusement. After all, you entertain them by riding around on a unicycle. Some reciprocity is appropriate.
