I have here for sale a Hoffman Strowler flatland BMX frame. 18.75" toptube size, Bee Yellow! Impossible to get a hold of these days in stores, and the strongest flatland frame. Designed by Kevin Jones! Perfect for the beginner, intermediate, and expert rider. Especially good for street riders looking to get into flatland, it will take the abuse of street riding and shrug off the knocks better than most of your modern street frames too. Weight is very well proportioned on this frame and will aid learning and improving. A true treat to ride.

Condition: New, No scratches, built up once to ride a small handful of times… learning peg wheelies and steamrollers. It looks like it came out of the box. I even cut up bits of electrical insulation tape to cover up the holes on the frame to prevent any moisture or dust getting into the tubes… talk about babying the frame? You won’t get a better condition frame unless you went to a store and handpicked the freshest of the batch!

The only part of the bunch that has a scratch is the Watanabe seat, which itself is plastic and has a few tiny scuffs on the corners of the backend. The Hoffman Strowler may have been doomed from the beginning after being dubbed “The New Big Daddy” frame. The Hoffman Big Daddy is widely considered one of the best, if not THEE best, flatland frame ever. Pretty big shoes to fill if you ask me. Mix in the hype of Kevin Jones designing this “New Big Daddy” with the general opinion of Hoffman’s recent flatland history, and you have cause for skepticism. Look no further than the Hoffman Momentum and I understand why some would question the Strowler and its place among flatland frames. However, take away the Momentum from your memory and Hoffman has had some pretty decent flatland frames. Every company is allowed to make a mistake or two, right? The Big Daddy and ep were both great frames. I hate to be the bearer of bad news for you doubters out there, but you can now add The Strowler to that list!

I have had quite a few frames in my days. I’ve tried a variety of styles, sizes, weights etc. Some past frames have been 2Hip, Fly/Suelo, Quamen, KHE, KGB, St. Martin, Hoffman, Dragonfly, Standard, and WeThePeople just to name a few! I would have to put The Strowler TOP 3!

Now I understand that not everyone rides the same. “To each his own” set-up. Different set-ups ride differently, so see the pictures of my frame for what type of set-up I ride. Now, forget the crazy bent and crossed tubes. Forget the crazy thin tubing and weight saving. The Hoffman Strowler goes back to the no nonsense idea of a flatland frame, with just the right tweeks here and there to keep it modern and functional. Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing terribley wrong with crossed tubes, or bends in tubing. Sometimes enough is enough though and companies go a bit overboard. The Strowler has the right angles and lengths were you would want them. The head tube angle is a perfect 74.5°, the seat post angle is 70°, and bottom bracket height is 11.75".

The slight bend of the downtube leaves just the right amount of rooms for feet or legs. My riding may not be at a level where I take advantage of all the benefits of this, but it is still noticable during hitch hikers, half hikers, squeeks etc. The top tube doesn’t appear to be that low. I’ve riden other low slung top tube frames, and I can’t say I have noticed much of a difference. I don’t jump all around the frame like some, but at 5’6" I have short legs, so any extra room is good. The angle seems to be just right for me. Not too low, not too high (like on the Momentum). The rear end isn’t as short as some other frames, but at 12.9" I haven’t had any trouble popping the front end up in manuals, hopping around the frame or kicking into steams and similar moves. I run the wheel slammed all the way forward also and run slight offset with my forks and the wheelbase is still plenty short enough.

The weight scares a lot of people off. In a flatland world were frames hover around the 3.5 - 4 lbs mark, The Strowler weighs in at 5.15 lbs. This is a decieving number. The Strowler is extremely well balanced. Just enough weight where you would want it. I’ve riden lighter frames where I wished I had a bit more weight up front or in the middle etc. I don’t find myself wishing that now. The proportioned weight actually helps with momentum and balance. In this case, weight is not a bad thing. My complete set-up weighs just under 26 lbs. I admit it did take a little bit to get used to coming from a Quamen Gamma. The transition was quick though. Quicker than I expected actually. I am not that weight concious to begin with, but those who are shouldn’t have much of a problem with the switch.

As far as assembly goes, I got this thing put together is about 15 mins. The integrated headset pushed right in, the mid bottom bracket was easier than I thought it would be. I am not a big fan of pounding bearings in so this was an area I was skeptical of. However, with a little grease and a rubber mallet it slid right in. The headtube seems to be a nice length also. My fork steerer tube was a bit short on my last frame, but now it sits perfect. The rear dropouts are 14mm. I am used to 10mm, and I run a Nankai. So 14mm adapter washers were needed. Luckily I had some lying around. There is a bit of space inbetween the dropouts. Not quite enough for Quamen Pops, but just enough for some of the other brands tensioners. Primo/Snafu ones should fit fine. I didn’t have any on had, so one medium sized washer on each side did the job. That is the only modifying that I had to do as far as assembly went. I don’t run rear brakes, but the frame comes with completely removable rear brake assessories (gyro tabs, cable guides and mounts) for a clean look! Another note of interest, I run a 22T sprocket and 11T rear cog and have no clearance issues with the chainstay.

Hoffman hit this nail right on the head. Obviously not every rider is going to love this frame, but I definitely believe is warrants a second look. At a price that is very competative the Strowler is a great option if you are in the market! Overall I am VERY pleased with this frame. There was a lot of anticipation for this frame to be released. After it came out the hype died. After riding this frame I don’t know why. It has met/exceeded all of my expectations. I don’t see myself replacing this anytime soon!

oh and a LIFETIME WARRANTY on this frame! NO other flatland frame has this…

JellyRoll, if we didn’t already know sponge I would have thought that you were one of his alter egos trying to talk him up. It doesen’t suprise me at all that he has a bling bike. He is sort of our resident bike trials/uni crossover expert.

Have you seen his unicycle? Not sure if I would call it beautiful but It has some good charicter. Or at least it did, not sure if he is done his new build yet.

If there was flat land around here I might consider it but I need to buy a new 36 for commuting.

How’d you find me on this forum? haha. Yeah I used to ride uni, but still glance over the forum from time to time to keep up with what’s going on. I’m going to finish building my uni after my new flat build is done.

Sask- we know eachother from global-flat.com . Haha, are you referring to The Ti? not necessarily the most beautiful frame, as it’s pretty old and scratched up. But nearly a decade old. Sure has character though!

I was hoping someone on this forum’d take my build. I need to sell this to get my plane tickets. I hate to see this Strowler go, it’s so damn nice. New! But my Ares will be replacing it.

yes, it does take removeable mounts. I have them in a small plastic bag they came in with the frame. I’ll include them too.
