Flansberrium unicycles

Giraffe fatty… with a disc brake? :astonished:

dunno … it seems to be a front hub … if you mount the sprocket on the disc flange, you could build a giraffe, but without disc brake.

In addition, the tire tread reminds me of trial tires (Luna/Blizzard/Impact) and it seems a bit small based on the surrounding objects to be a 26" rim…

Seems like a nice experiment, just it may belong more to the “post your current project” thread than to the Flansberrium one

But it is a very nice looking rim and not that heavy in 26" (780g)

Indeed, it’s a Luna tire. I’m going to go for the Cyko Lite for the actual build. Make no mistake, it will be a Flansberrium. ; )

Who needs brakes? Gotta go fast!

Someone photoshoped a picture of all the 55+ geezers a while back. It would be cool to do the same, but instead of geezers, the Flansberrium Fleet, although I cover both categories…as soon as I get my Flansberrium. Got the geezer part covered. Wotsits optional.

Jacok, Any update from your supplier?

Exactly 2 weeks ago, he said about 2 weeks to get the materials, I just checked my email for the date, I thought it’s been longer. If I dont get news by next wednesday I will send an email and check with my supplier! I can’t wait. I’ve got lots of work to do!

Getting close! Might need a border run from Boston via Tremblant. In the meantime I’ve been exploring EL tape backlighting for the mac’cheese.

Good news! My supplier got the stock! Everything will be shipped tomorrow. Production should get going pretty soon again!

I’m brand new to the uni world and have a couple of questions.
First thing I must say is that all the unicycles pictured in this thread are gorgeous. I plan on getting a Muni come summer time and now I’m intrigued by these Fattys.

What size are all the fatty wheels 26"?
Are Fatties better for muni riding than a regular muni wheel?
Do the common companies like nimbus, KH make stock fatties or are they all custom made? I can only find a 20"fatty by Nimbus, but I might not be looking in the right places.

Most fat tires are 26" (3.8-5.25" wide) There are also some 27.5" tires emerging. That refers to the rim size that would normally fit a “26” inch tire (the same ERD). The actual diameter of a fat tire can fluctuate based on pressure, but they are close to a 29" mountain bike tire diameter.

In general, a fat-tire unicycle isn’t usually considered beginner-friendly because they can have what I call “straight suck.” Basically, it can be hard to control depending on tire choice and pressure. Camber can also affect them more. Tires like the Nate are really good, and from I’ve heard, basically the less rubber on ground there is, the less negative effects you’ll experience. I have had a pretty good experience with a larry 3.8 turned backwards.

The benefits of a fat tire are huge. you can lower the pressure and steamroll over things you normally couldn’t. Everything is smoothed out. They are also the only thing you can ride in deep snow, but even then it’s going to be tough.

Typically a standard Muni will have what bikers considered “fat” years ago. A 3" tire. These are now referred to as “plus” sizes. They are easy to find. All the KH models come with a 3" Surly knard tire that still lets you drop the pressure a lot, but is much faster on dirt than a fat tire would be.

The first fat tire unicycle I’m aware of was the Surly Conundrum. Since then only a handful of production frames have been made that accept a large tire.

Thanks for the reply. When I’m ready to buy my muni I don’t want to make a mistake and regret what I buy. I’m trying to learn as much as possible about all the different choices.
I’d rather spend more initially and be happier with my purchase than to save a little and need/want to buy something different in a year or so.

Awesome news! Can we look forward to raw materials, in process and finished pics? These arrived today, sticking with the orange theme.

I love it already!

I’ll do my best. By I have to say, I am really bad at taking picture. When I start working I keep working until everything is back in the tool case. But I’ll try :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ll need to get used to it for my coming facebook page

Could you just set up a camera in your workspace and have it take a series of pictures timed every fifteen minutes or something like that? The set it and forget it method of taking progress pics

That could work. Or I can keep my phone close to my work table haha.

Jakob any news on this batch? We’re waiting for the beauties.

Follow my facebook page! I will post pictures during the weekend
