first commute with less than two wheels.

I started riding my bike to work recently. That was all well and
good, but not terribly exciting, and it was getting to be less and
less of a workout.

So, I took the Coker today. All I can say is, “wow”. That’s a lot more
workout than a bike. It’s a lot different than I’d expected. there is a
speed of pedal revolution which I consider comfortable. That is reasonable
on a bike with a gearing system. On the unicycle, I have to spin those
pedals a lot faster than I am used to if I want to make it to work at a
reasonable time.

By my rough estimate, I averaged between 11mph and 12mph on my 7.5 mile
ride. I can’t imagine how people like Roger and Gilby can manage the
speeds they do. Even on perfectly flat, land, I just can’t spin my feet
around that fast. I think I will consider the commute to be akin to
learning a new trick. Riding fast involves a lot more than just being good
at riding.

Definitely true! I took a 4-5 mile ride on mine the other day, first time
in a long time since I’ve been riding my muni more, and I was quite sore
the next day.

I can’t either. I don’t honestly know how fast I go, but I think it’s
slower then that.

Just don’t forget your wrist guards. Even a relatively low speed fall from
a Coker can do some good damage. I sure appreciated mine a few weeks ago.
I didn’t think I was going that fast, but I couldn’t run out of it and
went down right on my palms. Grated some good marks on the splints of my
wristguards.
