Extreme unicycling posters

Most mainstream extreme sports have a wide variety of phtographic posters available for them, so it’s easy to get posters of surfing, skateboarding, skydiving etc, but I can’t find any of extreme unicycling. Do such things exist? If not (which seems highly likely), when will this ever be rectified? I think it would be quite cool to have a decent poster of these low angle photos that some people can take, with a flying unicyclist against the blue sky, maybe with a flurry of dirt from the ledge they’ve just launched from.

Considering how much popularity unicycling seems to have gained in the last 5 years (from my retrospective), it’s interesting to wonder what it’ll be like in another 5 years from now…

a bike shop that i used to go to had a poster of kris holm riding down a real steep rock face. he wasnt wearing a shirt either for all you lady fans out there  . I have to call up those boys anyway so I will ask them wear they got it. -erik

There’s this one: http://www.unicycle.com/shopping/shopexd.asp?id=637

And these would all make good posters: http://www.unicyclist.com/gallery/albuq17

Ooh, that Kris Holm one is kind of what I had in mind. I didn’t know about it as it’s only in the UDC on the wrong side of the pond from me. Ah well…

I like that one, always did. The steepness of the slope emphasised by the
way even the trees cannot stand up straight.

Naomi ;-).

Re: Re: Extreme unicycling posters

Well said Naomi. --chirokid–

Re: Re: Extreme unicycling posters

LOL

It still is steep though!

Original:

and after rotating it back:

Joe,

Check this out:

It’s Kris Holm’s photo gallery on some website. He has some awesome stuff for posters.

Thanks Joe. I was thinking of doing that to see what it would look like, but didn’t get around to it. It suddenly goes from ‘insane’ to ‘pretty hard, but now I can imagine doing it’. Nice work on removing the advertising - done to avoid confusing the viewer’s brain into recompensating for the angle of writing, right?

  • Sam

yeah, Sam

I removed the ads, coz when i looked at it, i was stilll seeing wonky trees!

I use paint shop pro, and used the dulicate bruch, but it sort of just looks like a load of lines… oh well…

and i forgot to take the white frame from around the second one! Ooops.

Never mind.

Cool pic though!

Joe,

the trees aren’t standing up straight not because the picture is tilted, but because the slope is so steep that in order to be rooted in the ground, the trees naturally want to be perpindicular to the ground…

I thought trees only go straight up. They sort of grow directly away from the center of the earth. This they do because of gravity. Of course there are some trees that are bent somehow, but mainly the trees grow straight up, not necessarily perpendicular to the ground. A tree cannot know how inclined the ground is.

i printed a pic from tony’s gallery page 12 of unicyclist gallerys nice one tony who ever you are i would just search through unicyclist and copy some pics on to a picture program have a fidle with them and print sweet there is loads of cool pics from trial, muni, freestyle ect

I agree with Joona, and I think the trees definitely look tilted. If a tree grows out perpendicular to a cliff (sticking out) the leaves still face upwards for maximum sunlight, and the tips reach skyward. I think the fake tilt ruins the poster. I would maybe buy it if there wasn’t a fake tilt, and if Kris was wearing clothes. The non-tilted version looks far better, with Kris’s body angle looking much more natural for someone braking downhill. Gilby, you are good at T-shirt designs, how about making a couple of decent posters to compliment Unicycle.com’s limited selection.

well, sure there is a tilt, but how about the repetitive patern on the ground, i mean it could be my pc, or the picture itself, but i am concerned…
Julian

Don’t worry about the pattern Julian, it is a result of Joe’s modifications to the image. Check out the original original poster, and you will notice the strange pattern is absent. Joe has removed the credit given to Scott Kennedy (the photographer) and the advertising for Unicycle.com and Krisholm.com. The words would have looked dumb once the fake tilt was removed, so it’s either dumb words or a weird pattern.

Alhough Mr Holm has my admiration for his unicycling abilities, I would object to staring into his armpit for any extended period of time.

Perhaps some clever photo-manipulation could improve the situation in this respect.
