Exoskeleton & Riding

@JimT, nope but Hypershell have a forum for innovation ideas they reward for, you could suggest it for the next model ! But with the 2 batteries suuplied giving approx 17.5 miles each 35 total range, charging is not gonna be an issue.

Distance and touring maybe.

Depending what‘s in it, and how it‘s stuffed, a backpack can be a good idea. I wear one on my muni rides for tools, food, water etc., just like you. But I also have a protector (for motorbike riding) that I put in the compartment for the Camelback. If there’s enough free space I even add a small mat (supposed to be used to sit on) which adds soft pampering that the protector doesn’t offer. So far I didn‘t ever fall on my back (once on my bum, and that hurt a couple days) when muniing, but I‘m trying to be prepared for when it happens for the first time.

@Wheelou when I had the M4O freewheel une, I bought an Alpine Stars body protector, just a light weight vest but it has a built in spine/back protector as well as shoulders chest, kidney, elbow protectors. It would buy a little time to get if off. But like most bike gear, backpacks are syinthetic materials and padding, so are gonna burn and melt really fast, the white hot heat those batteries get too, once they blow.
But a back pack with padding would make it safer for muni and not a bad idea for some protection, straight away.
I think you could add something to cover it easy enough, so that might be something I add to make it safer and more uni safe, a suitable piece of carbon fibre and some Pclips would probabley do it

Hypershell Exo ProX update day 3
Just been out for a walk with the hounds, then a run in the 4 Eco pwr modes, then the 4 pwr modes Hyper Beast
OMG, insane, awesome, sick, epic, game changer, and I am not a paid blogger !.
I am blown away by home much pwr and torque this thing has.
Its like walking on the moon, a sense of being much lighter, pwr delivery is instance and smooth, once you start to move, if you stand still or dont move much its just passive. Its super powerful, a massive chunk more than I will ever need. For the first time in years, I can sprint, its mad, I felt like Mr Bolt haha.

Its really well designed and made, very strong, great attention to detail, I am super impressed, it has exceeded expectation in every way, by a massive chunk.
I have not been able to run for a few years, let alone sprint. Did a 100ms 8 times, and to be honest no real signs of serious physical excersion, not even out of breath or puffing.
Boy do you notice when you switch it off, think astronaught coming back to gravity after being in space for a bit.

So yep E-legs, do they work, for me a game changer, but needs careful use, so you dont rely on it. It changes in to transparet mode with 1 button press.

Really comfy to wear once you put it on and pwr up, it goes into automatic wear detection and adjusts its self and presses against the small of your back, and actually I found my posture was way better. Smooth, instant, seamless extra pwr. Super flexible with a full range of movement with no restriction, nice and light. Once its on, you dont really notice it, all the weights in the battery.

I have made a couple of improvements after reading alot of reviews, details, links and piccies to follow.

First full test on a uni, tomorrow morning, I just wanted to get used to the pwr delivery and pwr settings first, so been walking, running, sprinting, going uphill and stairs.
After testing it today really the lowest per setting eco 1 will be enough, if you had a hill to climb at the end of your ride eco lv 2 is going to do it :rofl::rofl:

E-Legs exo style, the best suggestion so far for it is “PAU” Pwr Assisted Unicycling although for me Exomuni fits better
It works, and super well, the design is ideal for a uni, I cannot wait to test it out now, super excited
I have not ridden the 26x4.8" Hatchet for a while, and when I have, usually 150mm cranks. This is the heaviest uni I have and that tire takes some work. I have set the cranks to 125mm also, so it should be much harder on my legs.

First PAU/Exo Muni ride and review tomorrow with all the links and pictures

I just love this thread. Someone asks if anyone has tried this, or if it’s even viable, and then someone else just thought this sounded like a great idea and immediately bought one. I am very much looking forward to hear about your experiences tomorrow @MadHatchetAndy . :star_struck: Best of luck, you crazy, crazy man!

I like PAU :+1:

Can’t wait to see @Setonix riding a marathon on a PAUW (Power Assisted Ultimate Wheel) at supersonic speed.

So many questions. eBike, escooter, EUC restrictions: can PAU wheel walking ever be prohibited?
@MadHatchetAndy, what is the noise level?

I just have a mental image of Wile E. Coyote strapping one of these on, cranking it up, then disappearing far into the distance, out of control, in a big cloud of dust… Meanwhile the Roadrunner stands quietly, thrumming his foot on the ground, watching sagely before zooming off about his business…

When riding downhills and the PAU is braking it certainly does not get hot. That means the braking energy is not dissipated in a braking resistor (which costs additional money), instead the energy is certainly charging the battery. Electrically a three phase bridge or H-bridge drives the motors. These bridges are standard and cheap. They automatically have 4 quadrant operation. This enables energy transfer in both directions battery ↔ motor. The problem is that it has to stop braking when it overcharges the battery or the battery gets damaged. This applies to EUCs, hover boards, segways, but not to ebikes as they are freewheeling and not braking.

I‘m not sure it‘s up to his cadence!
@MadHatchetAndy , this is indeed a very interesting thread, even if I‘m not planning on going that route. It‘s interesting to see what gadgets exist and how well they work .. . and to discover that they can be more than just gadgets in the right context.

Haha yes likley I am abit crazy🤣 but the reality is I am aging man with broken legs and feet, that have gone past the point of gaining any real muscle mass, no matter how hard I try. I am seeing muscle decline/wastage, I wont bore you with the medical reasons. I love riding my unis and muni and all the fun and challeges that brings, and mentally I dont want to stop. More than anything, I want to start riding with my uni pals again, they are all 25 years younger than me and joining in group rides has become difficult, I love organising and joining in. I stopped because I did not want to spoil the day for the fitter riders.
So a crazy last attempt to regain some leg stregth and contunue enjoying riding. Enthusiam has never been an issue. I have spent thousands on sport massage therapy, oestepoaths, chiro practors and the foot specialist.
The exo was cheap in comparison, I have 6 unicycles value ? a lot of money.
What value do you place on your mobility ? I am not ready for the mobitity scooter just yet. Plus I live 5 mins from muni heaven, and that would just not be right :rofl:

@Ulkicycling very little noise at all, a very faint wirr from the motors thats pretty much it. I just charged up the camera, which Im gonna mount on the bars, pointing down at the unit, it should be close enough so you can pick it up, but its faint. I suppose a little noise, if I was sprinting in hyper beast mode. I will try to get it on audio, its not totally silent, but not much noticeable noise that would cause any issue.

@DrD I had the image of Wallace n Gromit, in the “wrong trousers” movie :rofl: but wile coyote a good shout, yes its crossed my mind as well.
Likley, I may end up a uni crash test dummy. Pedal pressure, mounting pressue, incresse torque and 1 hrspwr, more power. Was thinking a double ft jump mount, but likley I am gonna over shoot the pedals and saddle. 41% less body weight and 40% more leg power makes a significant difference and I am just not used to that kind of strength. Its going to be interesting.
On a free wheel uni, that I would like to see.

Best of luck with it, and thanks for having the guts to try it out and shelling the money out; from what you say it certainly something worth trying, I am quite impressed, and pleasantly surprised, by your initial appraisal. Hopefully it helps ou with your post surgery issues.

I guess 'The Wrong Trousers" is probably quite apt; my mindset is probably more tuned to the world of Looney Tunes and the wonders the Acme catalogue could bring to a budding engineer, I never got into the whole Aardman thing – apart from Morph of course  – but that probably dates me too much!

I hope your Muni une-ivation goes well

Ok Day 4 on the Hypershell? Are there any negatives, yes, but they are not big issues.

  1. No battery fast charger supplied, only a type C charging cable, so you need to buy a 65W type C fast charger, cost £15.
  2. No dust cover on the charging port.
  3. Charging port is attached to the frame, so you charge the unit. You can get a 4 port battery charger but thats £100 extra
  4. With more strenous exercise, running/sprinting, it did slip down a little on the hips n legs. Top advice on many reviews, add some braces/harness.
  5. Once it’s size adjusted, it wont fit back in the carry case, and has to be reset to the minimum size, to fit. Not a huge issue, it takes 20 seconds.

Camera set up and ready. @Wheelou not to dissapoint on the cooedination front, skeleton uni t-shirt, skeleton gloves, skeleton Hatchet with an exoskeleton :rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:
