Düsseldorf Marathon results - new record 1:22:18

I don’t like going much above that. I am a bit of a wimp. At that kind of speed you have enough to recover if you hit a bump or anything and when tired… I also hate falling, I have enough injuries from falls. I have been up to about 40kph on occasions, but there is nothing left over at that kind of speed for me. The shlumpf with the lower cadence really helps with the higher speeds.

Roger

Roger, Düsseldorf is pretty much flat and apart from the two U-turns and the start there was not too much need to accellerate (unless you had some crashes and UPDs like some other riders  :o). Do you think reducing the wheight of the unicycle is much of an advantage in such conditions?

yes, saving weight does help. Especially when you reduce the crank length to less than 115, it just seams more lively and controllable.

But to get your 36er down to less than 6k, or roughly 13lbs, which is only about 1.5 pounds more than a kh trials, seems too incredible to believe! You should market your 36er “prototype” that weighs only 13 pounds! I’d be first in line to buy one!!!

ha ha, yes. It is easy to make a one off super light. Hard to mass produce.

Just watched Cato’s video for the first time - loved it! Getting psyched for the 2014 edition! I fly out next Tuesday to join Roger and friends on a road trip to Dusseldorf.

I didn’t notice the date stamp and thought this was from this year. I thought that the organizers would have been more organized and Roger would have been on shorter cranks. It made a bit more sense once I saw Nathan’s post.

I was planning to go this year but work got in the way. Good luck to everyone who is going and have fun!

Yes, this was 2 years ago. Here is the video from last year:

I am looking forward to this years race, although I have been ill for the last few months and am not expecting to do very well at all.

Roger

Thanks guys for for the video posts. I began using handlebars in January this year and I’ve made good progress. These videos have inspired me as I prepare for today’s ride on my 36er. 34kph!!! wow!!! maybe some day I’ll reach those speeds.

Get well soon Roger
