Drummers

Yes, the duct tape really does help to stop the ringing. The head on that snare has been upgraded since those last two photos. The current Evans PowerCentre head rings a lot one my snare, but sounds beautiful with a StickWeight on there. I tried a number of things (hankies, wallets, felt taped on as in the pic) but this works best for me. Some people can get away without anything dampening the snare (if their snare shell is some sort of non ringing kind) or don’t mind the ringing at all.

The link to our band’s website in my signature is not yet valid. It will be up and running most likely by the new year. If not, send your complaints to Brian Mackenzie who is building it for us. Actually, Brian’s been fantastic…highly recommended!

I’ve mentioned that you can listen to our whole album on Last.Fm here - http://www.last.fm/musicpages/album/index.php?id=2051866&mode= . Is that not working? Are people having problems with it? The thing about purevolume.com is that they let people download your music whereas Last.Fm lets you restrict it to streaming. Having spent over $3500 recording this album we’re trying to restrict the freebies and push as many album sales as we can. We’ve kept it down to $15 for a 7 track, 40 minute long EP which I think is pretty good value.

If Last.Fm isn’t working for you I guess I could upload the 30-60sec long samples that are going on our site for you to listen to. Let me know.

Andrew

Edit

MERCYME,
That’s a nice kit you’ve got there. Is it right in the centre of the house, like mine is?

Dave,
Thanks for the links, I’ll look into it.

Yeah, the last.fm is working for me Andrew. That would be great if you could upload a short snippet of one of your best songs. Do what you can do though, I’d love to hear your music.

EDIT:
Heh just missed that edit but looking back I see yours now.

Yeah its pretty much in the center. I have a cowbell on the bass drum its sorta hard to see. I barely use the bell though.

“Dancing About Architecture” audio snippets…

Here are a few of them - http://www.unicyclist.com/gallery/?g2_view=core.ShowItem&g2_itemId=167529

I’m going to start playing around with a new technique of sorts. See, at a lot of our gigs I have a video camera there because we do a lot of improvised stuff and often come up with new grooves that we like while we’re performing. So I’m often fiddling around with the camera with one hand and playing the grooves with my right hand only. I was thinking I should get into doing some independant rhythms over the top with my left hand. So I may invest in a cow bell…or maybe I should set up my djembe for the left hand.

Andrew

Some off the bands on purevolume have songs that you cant download some have only streaming other have both. Last i checked. Can you steam on myspace?

Thats some interesting music Andrew. Its sorta has a jazzy feel to it. Great drumming. I love Push out the Jive, sounds nice.

dude the lead singer of that band is also the lead singer of gorillaz, no?

Chase

Thanks MERCYME, we classify it as jazz funk. Push Out The Jive is my favourite too…it’s a lot of fun to play.

Andrew

Some very kewl stuff. Consider me a fan.
Also tell your vocalist that I am about to propose, if only for the ‘AU!’ on ‘Push out the Jive’. Do you guys have a CD out yet?

 She’s great, isn’t she. We have released our debut EP, “Romance and Reality”. In a week or two you will be able to see all the details on our website. It’s not ready yet. For now, here’s a pic of the EP.

I’m looking forward to ordering a copy.
Will you post a thread in JC when it’s ready to go?

Great! Will do. They are selling for $15 each…I hope shipping isn’t too much to South Africa. It’s about $13 to Canada! :frowning:

Andrew

$13 to chuck it in an envelope and post it to Canada!!?!
Can’t you get to the cricket and slip a copy to Graeme Smith and ask him to bring it back for me?

 Australia - Canada shipping has alway been ridiculous though.

Andrew

heres a better shot of my kit

Nice. That’s interesting having that tom so low behind the snare. I’ve never seen a setup like that before.

Andrew

yea i dont know if i like it all that much… i used to play with it like that years ago… but i figured that it looked better over the availability of easy playing… the picture doesnt show it very well but everything is flat… the flat look … well looks beautiful imo.

Yeah I like everything pretty flat. Except the crash cymbal and the rack tom. Those are easy to get to when they have a little angle to them. Refer back to my pic on page 3 to see my setup.

Nice double bass pedal. Are they better then having just two bass drums. I guess it does cost a little more to have two bass drums, but you can get two different pitches from each one. Just wondering. Thats a nice snare, that isn’t a 14 inch is it, I’m judging by how long your sticks are compared to it.

no its a 13" you can see all the sizes on my first post… i was plaing today for about 2 hours or so… and i got used to the flat rack tom… the first post the kit wasnt set up flat… yea teh dbl pedal is easier to tour with… but my las kit i had, had two kck drums, and i used axis a longboard pedals… teh feel is totally diff. teh rebound is better with two seperate kick drums but… i dont think worth having to have two… if that makes sense. haha. i had a hipgig kit that well i bought two of and pu tthem together ill try to find a pic of it… it was awesome looking… 2 x16" kick drums!!!

I like the music a lot as well Andrew. I might think about ordering a copy aswell. Depends on the shipping, and if I have the money. Again its some really interesting music. I am a big fan of Jazz Funk. Roy Hargrove, Nicholas Payton, Weather Report (the one and only). Some great stuff. Can’t wait till your CD comes out.

here is a couple of pics of my oldyamaha hip gig kit… i didnt have any so you can rally see how it is so i got a couple pics to show you… also a pic of my current kit in action…
