Dogs again

I had a problem with a dog on my uni this weekend. But this time it was my
own! Having managed to learn to ride (sort of) in a few weeks I often pop
outside and ride a hundred yards each direction. On Sunday I did as usual.
But, this time the dog was out… she ran infront of me and stopped a foot
away… not being expert I could not turn and could not dismount without
either standing on the dog’s back or throwing the uni infront of me and
hitting her.

So, I landed flat on my hands and knees… Two days later I am still have
trouble walking.

Let this be a lesson to me, and let other learners learn from my pain!
GET PADDING!!

So, whats a good brand of padding to stop broken knee caps?

Tony
PS. Any clubs in Manchester (I start work there on monday)

I always recommend that riders, especially beginners, wear wrist guards. I
always wear them.

As to knee pads. What works best for me are cheap kids roller blade knee
pads. Regular roller blade knee pads are too big. They have a tendency to
stick out too far and rub. I have several pairs of kids knee pads that I
bought at garage sales. The have a smaller plastic caps that cover the
knees, have velcro straps to hold pads in place and aren’t too wide. They
are adequate for racing and learning basic skills. If you get into trials
or muni you want to get Roach pads, or something similar, to protect your
shins and calves as well. Spikes on BMX pedals can make inconvenient
impressions in your skin.

All the best,

John Hooten

Hi Tony

There is a good club at The Priestnall leisure centre. It is a circus club
but has been pretty much taken over by unicyclists. There are people there
of all ages and skill levels, and it is really friendly.

It is on Tuesday nights from 7 - 9 pm.

Let me know if you are interested and I will get you the address,
directions and phone numbers.

Hi

Apologies for not replying sooner, I have been away working. (Stiltwalking
at a university freshers party full of drunken students…eeeeeeek!!)

The address of the venue is:

Priestnall recreation centre Priestnall Rd Heaton Mersey

If you need directions the number there is:

0161 442 7660

The Circus club is on Tuesday nights from 7 - 9 pm and its only 2 quid for
the session.

It is in a nice big hall, though it is cramped at the moment. If you get
there dead on 7 pm there are usually only a few people, so lots of space
for a short while.

If you need any more info please let me know, hope to see you there mate!
