Developements

Hi everyone,

Some of you more expirienced riders who are actually developing these products may be more liable to answer my questions.

In MUni and Uni trials in general, what products are being developed to more suit unicycles?

I saw a thread where Kris Holm said he is working with RaceFace on a crank deal. Thats about all i know of.

Something should be worked out with SunRims on their DoubleWide rim. They should make a rim of the same type but more suited to rim brakes and Mountain Unicycling. That would help a lot.

What about disc brakes? and what frames are being developed for them?

Thanks for the input,
Evan

Hi,

Re. uni product developments:

As soon as you start looking into developing any specialty products for
unicycling, a very big hurdle comes up- VOLUME. Bike manufacturers are
used to dealing in manufacturing in the order of 10,000 or more parts at a
time, so convincing them to build a few MUni parts is always difficult.

For this reason it is important that new MUni designs incorporate, as much
as possible, regular bike components. The Profile hub is good this way-
they didn’t have to machine any new parts to make this (except for
drilling out the interior of the hub in a design-specific way). It’s
unlikely that we’ll see any unicycle-specific rims coming out in the near
future but if disk hubs become available then this won’t matter. My new
frame design (available soon at unicycle.com) will have a mount on it for
disk brakes.

Remember, the DoubleWide is intended as a downhill disc-only rim. Vee
brakes and downhill bikes aren’t usually even in the same sentence. If you
want to run vees or Maggies, there is a similar rim available called the
Zum Eliminator at http://www.dhbike.com
