Death of the 24x3 Gazz???

Not wishing to cause premature heart attacks but, having happened across an
updated Nokian web site, it appears from their tyre size listings that the
only 24" tyre they’re doing is the 24x2.6" Gazz Jr. See
http://www.nokian.com/bike/dhspecs/index.html They certainly used to list
about 3 variations of 24x3 tyres in the previous site. I’ve just emailed
Nokian to try and find out for sure. I’m off for a weep in the corner now…

Here’s the old URL I have and they do still list the 24x3.0" Gazz:

http://212.246.17.120/bike/downhill.html

The new site does not include the 24x3.0". But the photos of their tread patterns is excellent. The photos are coming out larger than real life on my screen, with excellent detail.

this was one of my fears and a big factor in the choice months ago,to go with the 26 inch.

24"inch wheels have never had long lasting good tire selection,if the 24" gazz is to be no more it would be bad for alot of MUni riders.without that huge tire on there, any other 24"tire on a 24"rim is to small (the overall diameter)for MUni and will sink into every little hole on the trail.

i would’nt worry yet people, but i would stock-up.this always seems to happen to the odd ball sizes.

next thing you know is we’ll be ordering a custom 24 by 3.0 tire from Coker tire :astonished:

I have talked to the importer and he was certain that they were still being
stocked. They are showing on the very latest list and apparently they are a
very good seller.

I know that many MUni riders have fallen in love with this family of Finnish beauties, but there are a couple of competitors out there. You need not feel guilty for window shopping.

Arrow Racing Widebyte 24x3.0" (American Beauty)
http://www.arrowracing.com/default.asp?link=tire

Halo Contra 24x3.0". Their web site sucks so badly you can hear the vaccuum even before the site fully loads. (British Beauty)
http://www.halorims.com/

Intense DH 24x3.0" (American Beauty)
http://www.intensetires.com/30dh.html

IRC Kujo DH 24x3.0" (Japanese Beauty)

There are actually MORE 24x2.6" and 24x2.7" offroad tires out there. With so many manufacturers producing a virtual cornucopia of of 24" tire variations, it’s clear that the 24" fat offroad tire market is expanding and not contracting. Supporting the 24" tire market are 5 manufacturers of 24" rims. The 24" wheel size seems to be a standard now.

This is not the case for 24" slicks. Selection in this niche has no large supporting bike group, so pickings are slim to none.

Check out my tire page at http://torontounicyclists.tripod.com/tire.htm for more info.

its nice to know that there are more out there.i had no idea.

i still belive that unless a you want a 3.0 tire all the time, a 26" wheel is more practical for changing the feel of your uni.

has anybody else tried this, putting a 2.1 on their 24 inch wheel?
does the overall diameter get radicly smaller once the high sidewall of a 3.0 tire is not on there?

i belive this would cut down speed and distance by alot,so i guess my question is"if your not going with a 3.0 on a 24"unicycle why would’nt you just get a 26"

what a bunch of Psyco babble, sorry
