D.Clyn.Psychol

Hi,
this probably wont mean much to anyone but I’d like to share my excitement and there’s noone I know on MSN. I believe they are all twirling fire in Colwyn Bay.
Anyway, I have just been offered a place on a course called a D.Clyn.Psychol, which I have been trying to get on for the past 3 years. Wahooo!!!
Only got a slight worry - with the increased comuting that this will mean, will I have much time to unicycle?
Yahay, I’m going to be a Dr!!
Cathy

Congrats!!!
You can always MAKE time to unicycle;)

Re: D.Clyn.Psychol

Cathy, very impressive. Supreme congrats!

Bruce

thanx very much.
Cathy

But what on earth is a
D.Clyn.Psychol

or what does the course train you to be/do?
Sarah

a D.Clyn.Psychol trains you to be a psychologist and at the end of the three years you come out with a doctorate.
Cathy

Actually it trains you to be a clinical psychologist. I suppose, technically I’m already a psychologist.
Cathy

What does that really mean?

It means you can get your own TV show like Dr. Phil.

A psychologist is someone with a psychology degree, a clinical psychologist is someone who a psychology degree and medical qualifications, and can therefore treat people (hence clinical). Correct me if i’m wrong, i only know because my gf is interested in this career path.

Did someone say the difference between a psychiatrist and a psychologist is: a psychiatrist does not know psychology, so they prescribe medication.

A psychologist is someone with a psychology degree.
A clincial psychologist is someone who is trained to ‘do’ psychology with clients - treat them (or rather help them to help themselves) (no medical qualiifications though).
At the moment I’m kind of inbetween - I’m an Assistant Psychologist. Which means I can ‘treat’ people but only under the direct supervision of a Clinical Psychologist. The competition to get on the D.Clin.Psychol (Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, I guess) is great. For instance the course I have just got on had 300 applicants, interviewed 75 people and all for 25 places. So I’m chuffed.

PS I wouldn

Oops. pressed submit by mistake.
I was going to say, I wouldn’t like to comment on psychiatrists, except to say that they’re paid way too much.
