I actually really like this tire/rim combo. Its a great blend of a freestyle/street and trials wheel. Unfortunately I may have to sell the wheel soon so I can have money to make it to NAUCC.
The frame is a powdercoated Nimbus II frame actually. Hoorah for machined bearing holders.
Im pissed, I didnt get self extractors with my DH pro street K1. Ef Division 8, ef them hard. Ive had to do quite a bit of banging and swearing do to them, not to mentions the fact they sent two “right” cranks when I got it, and then had the nerve to get snippy when it took longer than they wanted to send it back. The worst part is there is no way to buy the self extractors on their own. “Ef division 8, right where it hurts”.
does anyone have a diagram or an explanation about how self extracting cranks work? I keep hearing about them but I can’t really picture in my mind how they work.
This little piece threads into the end of the crank where all those extra internal threads are(if the cranks have them). It tightens into place on the outside of the crank bolt, keeping it from being able to come out of the crank. When you unscrew the crank bolt it pushes against that little self extractor, which wont move, and the force pushes the crank off the axle.
one of the rings popped off one of my street cranks, but the crank i loose enough on the hub that if i take the bolt out and spin the wheel the crank just falls off. IE it takes no force to remove it.
At first mine were tight and would not come off easy, then they went through a phase where they would come off by hand. I ended up loosing spacers and changing the spacer setup around and they would not come off by hand anymore. Now I have spacers that are like .5mm to big so they come off by hand but they get loose like twice a ride. If I had self extractors I could just go back to plastic spacers. …its not something I am looking to far into, as 1.where would I get them and 2. I would be crazy to think they would actually thread into the beat up crank nubs.
It seems like things are hit-or-miss with k1 stuff. I have had no problems with anything on my uni ever, and it fits non-koxx isis cranks on the hub, where as some people have frames w/o too little clearance, or missing bearing spacers, or in your case, missing extractor rings(how do you end up forgetting those? doesnt the factory put them in?).
Dont get me wrong I am not hating on Koxx-One. I have never had any problems… Ive been using that wheelset for quite a long time. My only problems come from Division 8 messing up my order. I know exactly why the cranks do what they do and thats why the extractors exist. I fully blame the problem on Division 8. They must have somewhere down the line assumed they didnt have to do anything but unpack there shipment and send it to me. Nothing was together I built the wheel myself. That is un heard of, buying a complete unicycle and having to lace it yourself… pff. Ontop of that getting two right cranks and no extractors. Lame sauce.
I know renegade puts them in the cranks when they sell a uni or pair of cranks. That is why they wont sell me just the extractors they only had the one that came with the cranks.
