Cranks for Trials Tire

Hello –

I’m considering purchasing the United trials unicycle from Unicycle.com
but I would like to customize it before I purchase it – especially with
better cranks. I would like to buy cranks as close to 145 mm as possible,
simply because if I ever decided to upgrade the hub to profile, it
wouldn’t take much to get used to a new size. My question is, in the mean
time, which steel or alloy crank is the strongest. I’m 185 lbs. and have
bent miyata cranks… any suggestions?

I had a related posting that I put up about two days ago. One response was to not get the Lasco cranks, because they will bend.

Good Luck!

No lasco cranks, they’re evil. If the pedal 9/16 hole is no getting its
thread destroyed when removing the pedal, they will most likely bend.

The bicycle euro ones work real good unless you begin to really
drop strong

Pretty much any cotterless cranks will bend given time. One idea is to
find someone who can shorten and retap a set of downhill cranks like those
from Kooka @ http://www.kooka.com/

What do you mean? Who can do something like that and is it really
feasible?

Thank you,

I mean someone trims down the cranks to the desired length then drills out
a new hole and thread for the pedal to go in to. I’ve had a cut down set
of Shimano Deore cranks before so it’s definitely possible if you have the
right tools - I’m not sure what their proper name is though as someone
else did it for me.
