Could you recommend a good unicycle that I can buy in New Zealand?

Thank you so much for the information! I’ll check it out.

I didn’t know that… Thank you for telling me!

Hey. What area of New Zealand are you in. If your in Auckland I can help you to at least try one out, if not I can probably direct you to someone that can lend you one to try. If so my email address is pageesone@gmail.com.

Trainer is a “high quality cheaper one”. Although I am not sure if it is still valid for a new one.

Open UDC UK and find Trainer there. UDC UK segments the market into Beginner, Freestyle, Urban, Muni and Road (they use slightly different British names there, but I have “translated” them for consistency). The Trainer is positioned as a budget friendly Road model.

However, all their Road unis use 127 mm cranks or shorter, while the Trainer comes with 152 mm cranks — a length more commonly associated with the Beginner or Muni segments. Yet the Trainer is not positioned in either of those categories, and rightfully so.

While most of my comments relate to the Trainer being a budget friendly model, the crank length is a different issue — it looks like a mistake. This choice appears inconsistent with the Trainer’s market positioning.

I’ll add my first uni was a Club 26". It shipped with 150mm cranks while also being marketed as an entry-level road unicycle. I guess they ship the more beginner oriented unis with longer cranks

Agree, it could do with shorter cranks. That said, adequate cranks can always be bought down the road. I happen to have a accumulated a small collection of cranks over time, some new, some used. The main issue here with the trainer is the square taper interface - the cranks will not be compatible with higher end unis, unfortunately.

Cotterless cranks are ridiculously cheap. I have them in multiple lengths and if you have a crank puller easy to swap out. Note make sure you get the right crank puller, the one for isis is different.

Here is a picture of my 29 trainer. You will notice the maxis 2.5 tire, the pull brake and upgraded saddle, 125 cranks and vibram rubber grip pedals pedals. The unicycle behind it is a 32 UDC Titan also with cotterless cranks. Just to show this unicycle can evolve over time as you can afford to do so.

Here is the 32 Titan kitted out with a touring bar. I used to have a touring bar on the 29 trainer. You can do everything you see here to the trainer.
