Christmas Music

Ok, Ok, I know it’s not the coolest music in the world, and Lord knows we probably don’t have it playing in the walk-man while we HSG threw the Christmas traffic aon the streets, but you gotta admit, Bing Crosby, White Christmas is a pretty kick ass tune. What’s everybody’s favorite X-mas Carol or song?

Re: Christmas Music

since i’m in the industry responsible for inflicting this kinda music on non-suspecting xmas shoppers, i’ve had the opportunity to listen to waaaay more of it than i ever intended

my personal fav is dianna krall’s version of ‘jingle bells’
it isn’t quite xmas season till i’ve heard boney m’s ‘mary’s boy child’
i also like the bizarre xmas colaborations
two spring to mind
frank sinatra and cindy lauper’s ‘santa claus is coming to town’
and (are u sitting down?) bing crosby and david bowie doing an interesting medley of ‘little drummer boy’ and ‘peace on earth’

u asked

(oh, yeah, the boyz to men version of silent night should crack a mention as well)

I am partial to:

Bruce Springsteen - Santa Claus Is Coming to Town
Joan Jett - Little Drummer Boy
Holy Night (versions performed by opera singers)

Yes, I enjoy the old stuff too. My favorite Christmas song for writing obsence lyrics to is Walking in a Winter Wonderland.

I also enjoy those corny bell ringing versions of carols.

Tomorrow my mom comes out and we put up the tree. The kittens are going to have a field day. Oy!

Happy merry,

All I Want for Christmas is my Two Front Teeth. Oh yeah.
Also I’m Getting Nuttin’ for Christmas.

I was in Spencers and they had a punk rock Christmas CD on, pretty good stuff.

this my favorite time of the year to listen to Dr.Demento

“here comes Santa with his sack of $h.t” is a must hear…!

The Mannheim Steamroller version of “Carol of the Bells”

It rocks.

Tonight I bought the soundtrack to “A Charlie Brown Christmas” by the Vince Guaraldi Trio. It’s one of the best Christmas CD’s around. And if you haven’t seen the movie, you should watch it. It’s a classic.

One of my favourite Christmas songs is “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree” (Brenda Lee). I pretty much love any of the old songs from the 50’s, 60’s, and the Bing Crosby era.

seems like a fair time to dredge this one up…

O Holy Night. Many artists do it well. Maria Carrey does a great rendition.

What Child Is This (Greensleeves).

And of course: Bob and Doug McKenzie’s 12 days of Canadian Christmas…“On the first day of Christmas, my true love gave to me, A beer in a tree.”

‘punk rock x-mas’ by the sex pistols is cool. most sintra xmas stuff is nice too. Trans-siberia orchestra has cool xmas muszac

New Found Glory - Ex-Miss

Very good Christmassy/Punk song.

chipmunks roasting on an open fire!!!

Well, I have this cd called :Christmas- remixed.

It’s genius. my favorite in the cd would be the nuttcracker suite.

The orignal “Grinch” theme song
And
“Stop giving me useless crap for christmas” by bobby gaylor

Hands down winner in my book:
Adam Sandler’s “The Hannukah Song”. I’m not Jewish (I’m not even Christian), but that song puts me in the holiday spirit everytime

I’m also partial to Blink 182’s “I Won’t Be Home For X-Mas”, the No Doubt cover of the Vandals “Oi To The World”, and They might be Giants had a song that I think was called “I saw my Baby wearing Santa’s Beard”… Good stuff

If I knew the words to the Dreidel song (and was sure that was the correct spelling) I might add that to the list

From the “classics” list, my favorite would have to be Nat King Cole’s version of “The Christmas Song”. But I’m generally more into instrumental versions. John Fahey’s various solo guitar Christmas albums are great IMHO. I love the Tuck Andress guitar album “Hymns, Carols, and Songs about Snow” (which has a great Ave Maria). The California Guitar Trio also has a nice Christmas album. Those three are high on my rotation right now.

How about worst christmas song. I have yet to hear any rendition of 'Jingle Bell Rock" that didn’t suck.

Trans siberian orchestra’s carol of the bells and the original.
