Capricious Tire Pressure

Is it normal for my 24" wheel to go from the recommended 50psi to 25 in
about 2 weeks? Anyone else’s tires lose air over time?

All tires lose air over time but yours going from an already low 50 psig (compared to 80-100 psig bicycle tires) to 25 psig in 2 weeks is a bit swift. It may be easier to keep pumping it up occassionally than to try to find that slow of a leak. Or, alternatively, you can spend the whopping amount of cash required for a new tube.

If you get curious, pull the tube out and blow it up to twice its normal diameter (there’s still no pressure when it’s out of the tire but watch the volume so it doesn’t pop) so it stretches out nicely and then dip it in a tub of water and look for bubbles. You probably know the drill.

Also,

Try a drop of water on the valve itself before taking apart the tire. If it bubbles, then you need to tighten the valve. You can get valve caps at a auto supply store that have a built in valve tightner at the top of the valve cap. Then just keep that valve cover on the valve stem.

Keep it up.

Ya, mine has- last Thursday it was 70 deg F., all day- this morning it is
30, and has been more like Winter all week. Shrink! You may have to adjust
the tire to the temperature at which it will operate. Of course, you may
have a leak.

Christopher

A temperature drop from 70 to 30 deg. F will cause the pressure in the
tyre to drop from 50 to about 45 psi. So Christopher, you may have a leak
as well. It might be caused by the cold though, in some way.
