I see that UDC UK has some Tensile Brake mounts that are offset 10 mm, but the design wouldn’t allow much movement inwards anyways.
Does anyone know of any good Maggie to V brake adaters in the US? Lots in the UK, but nothing available locally.

Those adapters will not work in the opposite direction to bring the maggies closer to the rim; only further away. I had to have mine duplicated at a machine shop from the original adapters made by Scott Wallis. You might try contacting him but I don’t think he’s making them currently.
So it looks like my options would be: Disc, V adapters, a Sidepull Caliper, or a wider rim.
Or maybe I’ll just be a man and go brakeless. There is something kind of attractive about a completely barebones unicycle. I could definitely have some fun with it, though the ride down would be hellish.
I had originally been thinking of putting a Schlumpf hub in a 700c wheel after seeing Muni Tasmanias setup, but the cost is horrifying and I personally am not crazy about the 1:1.5 step (that’s just me). So Plan B is to build up a ‘fairly’ light weight 700c climber using UDC’s 32h hub along with either Velocity’s Dyad or Chukker rims paired with either the Schwalbe Marathon Supreme, or Resist Nomad.
Now that I can build wheels, I want to do something from the ground up, and I can sell my current 29er that’s gathering dust to fund the project.
Just too bad about the Maggies…
Thanks for the info Terry.
And just like that, I find these.
Hello Killian,
just 2 pics of those I made a few month ago :
After my test the L section was a bad idea.
If you would do some you can go less thick and simply flat.
Steel is easier to find and can be thinner.
Do any of you guys know of a good online source to get a black or reflective Velocity rims in 36 hole? UDC US is going to be out of 32h hubs until April, and locally, we don’t seem to have any 36h Velocity rims in the color I’m looking for.
I’m looking for either the Blunt or Dyad.
Sooooooo, it’s either get the 32h hub from UDC Canada, or the 36h rim online. Thought I’d try and track down the rim first since the 36 spoke wheel’d be a bit stronger and require less maintenance.
I like Niagara Cycle.

So do I but there are sellers on Amazon that list it for less: Amazon.com. I’ve ordered from Green Canyon Outfitters (through Amazon) before and they take about the same amount of time to ship as Niagara.
Dyad users,
Which width rim tape are you running? Can’t decide if I want to go 16mm or 21mm. Not sure if the 21 will be too wide or not, or if the 16 will be too narrow.
My LBS used whatever was the right width for the rim. As long as it’s wide enough to full cover the spoke holes, you’re good. Always go a little wider to get good overlap of the holes since the tape can shift and if too narrow can expose the holes.
I used Newbaum 17mm tape. I think 16mm would be fine and 21 may be too wide.
Here are some pictures of my new 700c road uni. I’ve been happy with the 26" x 1.75" Panaracer Paselas on my commuter bicycle and had wondered how it would be to use one on a unicycle. I went with a 37mm 700c Pasela tire and a Rhyno Lite rim for the uni. A while back, out of boredom and curiosity mostly, I had bought a “Schwinn Unicycle 36 Hole Square Taper” hub off eBay, so I used that. It has a classic look and seems good enough for light-duty use, the main unexpected drawback being that it uses non-standard bearings with 5/8" inner diameter. VXB sells them, though that added an extra shipping charge hit that I hadn’t planned on.
Laced cross-three, the spoke length worked out to a 292 mm, which is conveniently 11 1/2", a factory-supplied size so no custom threading or special order was needed. That was basically an accident this time but I will be trying to do it on purpose in the future.
The frame and saddle are from my 26" muni. I bought a Qu-Ax 29’er frame and saddle for this one, but then decided purely on aesthetics that I liked them better with my muni wheel so I swapped.
I didn’t have a lot of time for riding over the weekend but I did take it up and down my street a few times on Saturday and it felt comfortable right away. The Pasela has a compliant casing that seems to put a lot of rubber on the road per millimeter of width. I had it around 55 psi, and it felt nimble but stable enough. It rolled well over bumps and cracks and I could turn it when I needed to without nearly as much effort as the Hookworm on my muni takes. I was doing U-turns in much less than the width of the road right away, and I didn’t notice much trouble from road crown pulling it one way or another.
More later when I’ve had more time on it, but so far I’m pretty pleased with how it came out.
Looks nice. What size cranks are you using?
Thanks! Those are 140 mm. Basically guessed there but so far they feel good around my hilly neighborhood. I’m also going to try 125 mm at some point.
I really like the look of it, that schwinn hub might not be great but it has cool holes in it…
Here is my test setup. I build it like 2 years ago, and used it only once. But I still have the wheel
ps: the brake is not setup for this wheel
I kinda like it
Lookee what UDC has as a limited edition.

I know this is an oldish thread, but wanted to post up a huge thanks to Davidp.
I’ve been trying to track down another Velocity Dyad in the 36h with Reflective PC NMS. Velocity couldn’t help me, and when they released my order to their line of retailers, they couldn’t find one either.
However, it looks like on Amazon, Green Canyon Outfitters may have what I’m looking for. The thumbnail shows the rim with the non-machined sidewall, and it’s 36h, so I ordered one, and am gonna hope like hell! I’ll be using a disc brake, and I think machined sidewalls are ugly if you aren’t using them.
Anyways, I hope this is what I’m looking for! Either way, it saved me about 40 bucks since Velocity wants 120 for this rim (if they have it, which they don’t). If it’s machined, it’s still in the PC that I want, and I’ll still be happy :).
Thanks David!
What is the attraction of the Velocity rim?
With 700c you have a plethora of incredibly good rims. I built my 700c up with a Mavic Open Pro and it is beautiful and very stiff.
On my training route, the speed is comparable to a 36" Unguni, except it is a whole heap more fun to ride because it’s so light and buttery smooth. Because it takes less effort the legs are in better shape afterward…would be ideal for ultra long distances.
