oh dear !
thats very unlucky, congrats to the pilot for landing safely.
Well, no deaths, 4 people with minor injuries. Good news. Could have been far far worse.
As regards congratulations to the pilot for landing safely…one reading of the article might suggest that he missed the runway, landing short, thus causing the crash.

Two cars collided on Interstate 280 last night.
A building is burning in Downtown San Jose this morning.
Who the f*** cares about disasters? They happen all the time? Why is this news?
There is genocide in Darfur. Children starving all over Africa. A major political assassination just happened in Pakistan. This is what matters… not what’s in Britney’s handbag.
Wake up, people!
+1
???
It’d be news if you were on it. Someone where I work was on it. I’d consider that slightly more important than the contents of Britney’s handbag, personally.
As disasters happen all the time, should we ignore all of them? If not, how do we decide which ones to pay attention to? Maybe the media should report everything that might be of interest and leave everyone to make up their own mind as to what they might want to know about. If you don’t care, don’t read it and move on, but don’t whinge about others taking an interest if you don’t.
“It’s a miracle. The man deserves a medal as big as a frying pan.”
Even more funny in audio form
But on the story:
Good thing nobody was hurt, bit of a close call with car park by the sounds of it.
So you’re totally cool with the fact that modern society is more hip to what’s going on in Hollywood than anything else? Awesome.
The problem we’re all facing is, these stories are taking front-page real-estate away from stories that have substance. And sadly enough, it seems some people are too short-attention-span to make it past the front page.
I’m tired of having to skip “BUILDING ON FIRE” on page one, “BRITNEY GETTING MARRIED” on page two, “ABANDONED BABY” on page three… etc. etc. etc. to get to the “real” news some seven or eight pages back. Like elections being tampered with, progress in mid-east peace talks, advances in world health care, etc. Things that people should care about.
Instead, the media is pacifying / stupefying the masses with BS while the gov’t pulls the wool over our eyes and mass-murderers go on about their business unabated.
And phil tells the media “keep up the great work, guys!”
Sheesh.
Whenever I hear anyone talking about “the masses” my eyes glaze over slightly…
Personally I couldn’t care less about what’s going on in Hollywood, but you must be reading the wrong news sources if you’ve been having to wade past stuff like that to get to the proper news.
If you choose to ignore the plane crash (it’s only gets a tiny mention on the BBC News site unless you’re looking at the UK section, after all) there is still plenty of “proper” news to keep you as informed as you like. Even so, I fail to see how you can possibly say that a plane crash - something that doesn’t happen very often and can obviously be pretty damn serious when it does - counts as “non news”.
Have to agree with Phil on this one.
What exactly is ‘Hollywood’ about this news story?
Was Bruce Willis the pilot?
It looks like Boeing is going to be getting an order for a new plane. Good news for Boeing.
The news reporting in the US is different than that in the rest of the world… it’s amazing how much real news is not reported here in the US.
You’re just reading your paper backwards.
I agree with what you have to say though, except I wouldn’t of skipped the abandoned baby.
It really depends upon where you choose to read the news. Like you I know something of most of the major world issues. I also know about some of the less important news. News comes in all sizes. Some people have no interest in the “big game” news. Maybe sad, but not all people are like you. Luckily not all are like me. The plane crash affects a lot of people, even though no-one has been hurt. It causes major disruption , delays, worried relatives. It IS news. To you in the USA it may be small beer. To someone whose relatives will now miss their connection, or were on the plane it is relevant. As is the news. Local news will always appear trivial at a distance. On your doorstep a car crash affects you more than the asian volcano which is rumbling dangerously above that populous town.
You could take your argument to many levels. How can you justify spending money and time on unicycling, when that could be better spent on Darfur issues? A ridiculous argument…another ridiculous argument. Yes: Britney Spears is of no interest to me. I know she is a singer, but could not name any of her songs, let alone her handbag contents. But there are a lot of people, mainly young, whose interests are at the pop singer level. They are unlikely to see with interest the major world events, or world news at your level, certainly not for some years, and you will have to accept that.
The level of intellect in this forum seems quite high, and you are preaching to many that are already converted. I don’t know how American newspapers are laid out. But what does it matter which page the “important” news occupies. You know where to find it. Others know which page their interests lie on. And at least they are reading the paper, or part of it. There are many who never read papers, and probably never watch the news on TV. But is it fair to knock them for their life choices? Why should we all have to think and act the same? A lot of people just want to read BS, they can understand it, it holds no worries for them, so they stay happy. Is that so wrong?
Oh, and Steve Wright, mass murderer ( 5 is a mass by UK measurements) , is also getting column inches, front page column inches, as long as you choose to read the “right” papers.
Have your own priorities by all means , but we are all different. Vive that.

We may not make it in cans as big as Fosters, but you can hardly say we have small beer here.
Steve Wright, the COMEDIAN!?? He’s a mass murderer??! Well, he was a bit odd, wasn’t he? But I never suspected THIS!!!
Are you sure you got that news right about him??
George Bush crashed the plane looking for oil
Wow, Steve Wright. Who new! What a cover! Dull comedian. Better than being a tennis pro (Culp/Cosby)
If you’re flying a spaceship at the speed of light and you turn on the headlights, does it make a difference?
Yes, it does. It makes your head hurt.
See, someone else reading the “wrong” pages in the papers. Maestro will be highly annoyed with you, all this celebrity worship.
