My ankles have never been hurt from high drops, and parts aren’t too expensive to replace, so no problem for me doing drops.
I feel that big drops get a bad rap in unicycling, and its funny, cause big drops are big part of a lot of unicycling styles. They are there, they are going to happen, it seems like there is a large exaggeration about them, most of us think they are fun, and to the non-rider, they are one of the things that look the most impressive.
What’s “pointless” to one person is a fun challenge to another! I fall into the latter category. And I find that as long as you are not dropping to flat, wear appropriate protective gear, and have the technique and experience at biggish drops, plus confidence and a uni made for strong enough for it, then the better chance you have of landing it with no injury to you or damage to your uni.
But don’t feel pressured into this comp. Just don’t do it if you have any doubts. And you should obviously have experience doing biggish drops in the first place; don’t go for it otherwise. This comp is not for the squeamish! :o
Yea thats how I look at it now, avoiding them if posible. I used to do big drops but on one my ankle twinged. I coulnt ride atall for over a month and now even on like 3 foot drops I can put my ankle out and be in agony. Normaly its fine, just have to put my foot well onto the pedal. Now I steer clear of them if posible, thats why I am not in.
So far in this thread there is me and unibikeling for sure. But with all due respect, everybody else is like, “I would, but,” or “this is pointless”. If you don’t want to be in it, that’s cool. Howabout posting if you are going to participate.
“Crazy”? Haha you must mean win the whole thing in all categories in my 36er! lol not likely, but I have landed a 4 footer on my 36er, so I’ll go for a bit higher. Can anyone show me a video of anyone landing a higher coker drop than me? I’d love to see it!
ehh i dony know, ive seen u jump like 12 stairs before so i dont think so, but if you can do a 12ft drop then go ahead, but by drop i mean,… eh i dont know wat i mean, i kinda want to say no, but i want some other peoples opionion on it.
O i got it, No, unless there is like a 12ft (say ur jumping 12 stairs) drop from where your jumping from and where your landing.
What he means is if each stair is 20cm high then he would times the number of stairs by 20 to get his height. There is no reason why he shouldn’t be allowed to do that.
You’d be better off just doing a drop than jumping stairs though coz then you wouldn’t need to worry about the distance or falling down the stairs.
yeah, I usually take a tape messure with me when I ride… Lol.
I do 9’ in this video. I can’t find the exact time because I have to turn off my comp because of an electric storm… but it’s there.
Haha ok. I’ve see that video before-the one you linked to above. Pretty freakin’ awesome! looks so intense! The big drop you landed was at about :46. Did you ever meausure that? I did look huge!
I think maybe we should have a separate category for rolling, like off a stair set, and static. There is a decided advantage in doing a rolling hop down something, as you have lots of extra forward momentum to help you roll out and distribute the impact.
For a static drop, while you can jump outward to increase momentum for the drop, it can’t compare to doing the same drop with a sufficient run up for a rolling hop down. Just a thought.
