Big UW Upgrade

In this latest design, there is one continuous board - which houses the crank threads - and two separate boards, each connected to the main board with tightbond lll and 3 pocket holes/screws. It feels incredibly solid but also much lighter than a solid disc.

Although it appears as a pretty simple and basic design, getting the boards cut precisely and getting them dead-center on the carbon rim, was challenging.

Btw, the reason you see me holding my left arm out in front of me is because I was narrating into my smartphone held in place by an elastic forearm sleeve, while my hover x1 flying drone was tracking my riding. I decided to use different narration at the beginning instead.

how durable is wood? Looks like a nice wheel.

Don’t your knee joints never hurt? That started happening for me, once I could consistently ride longer stretches. Kinda like I twist my legs possibly when mounting.

Maybe you can sell some of your blueprints to municycle.com, so they can also start selling 36" UWs. I like your leg-holders, so you don’t rub the wheel. They look a lot sturdier than the Lunicycle holders, where they still use tiny screws to keep the sections together. How could they ever have come up with that design and never improved on it.

3/4 inch pine is solid, and should not present any issues. Last build used only 1/2" thick plywood and it lasted for years. I did modify and reinforce the Lunicycle leg shield/foot plates that I had. I replaced the cheap plastic vertical section with 1/8 inch thick aluminum flat, and also replaced the restrictive cup at the top with a much wider, straight pad. It works great! Also made pedal protectors to absorb impact in case wheel is dropped.
