Better Buy

This is my first unicycle and I’d like to know which is a better buy,
assuming they are priced about equally:

1)UNICYCLE by Gravity Industrial Design Group – the best quality Unicycle I
have ever seen. The UNICYCLE has a special seat with protective chrome steel
rails.{UNICYCLES WITH CHEAPER ALL PLASTIC SEATS ALWAYS NEED NEW SEATS ~ as
the seats get torn in falls}. In addition, this one comes with expensive &
strong Uni-crown fork and extra heavy duty bearings. This is a Brand New
Unicycle in the factory box (takes about 5 to 10 minutes to assemble). It is
is a 24" wheel. GRAVITY BACKS THIS UNICYCLE WITH A LIFETIME WARRANTY.

2)Brand New 2003 Torker 24" Wheel Unicycle!!! Top quality unicycle!!
Specially designed fork has flat tops for doing extra tricks! (Forget that
old unicrown fork, THIS IS THE LATEST 2003 TECHNOLOGY!) Sealed Bearings, 3
piece cotterless cranks!! Special comfort seat with Nylon Poly removable
guard rails, keeps seat from getting banged up, also makes good grab
handles… (Stay away from the old fashioned “metal rail seats” -finger
breakers! Again, NEW DESIGN! …Seat Heights: Highest 43", Lowest Uncut
38", Lowest Cut 32" - SEALED BEARINGS!! High polished Chrome finish…
Quality Unicycle Specific Tire and THORN Resistant Tube YES! This Unicycle
has the NEW 2003 Seat!! No more metal rails to get your fingers caught or
broken in, like the OLD Fashioned metal rail seats!! Nicer than the Schwinn,
bike shop quality.

Thanks…

The Torker by far.

Better bearing holders, better crown; higher quality uni in general.

That said, a lot of the hype is useless (2003 technology? no.) but it’s still a better buy, even if you do pay a little more.

Later,
Eli.

Re: Better Buy

I had such a laugh at the:
“The UNICYCLE has a special seat with protective chrome steel
rails.{UNICYCLES WITH CHEAPER ALL PLASTIC SEATS ALWAYS NEED NEW SEATS as the
seats get torn in falls}”

Who ever wrote this knows nothing about unicycles and I guess has never even
been on one!
That seat is so bad it is a joke, it collapse when it is dropped, it traps
your fingers and is dangerous. It is also the very cheapest option of any
seat offered from Taiwan. The plastic seats are generally considerably more
durable… even the cheapest! Would this person consider this seat better
than a Miyata or Kris Holm saddle? they are all plastic.

I think this shows… buy from people who know about unicycles.

Roger

I just recieved my Torker from them, and only can complain about one thing. The seat is way to small for human consumption. Otherwise, it’s a good learning tool (cheap).

Savage vs. Torker
Let me think
Torker!

Re: Better Buy

Roger’s right…

They shouldn’t even be allowed to produce that seat !
Anyone who knows anything about unicycles wouldn’t even offer that seat !
With all the seats available these days, it should be taken off the market !

Most of the riders who have been riding for 20 years or so usually had that as
their first seat. Riders starting out today don’t know how lucky they are !!!
John Foss often posts comments like this but I don’t think people can relate as
well as someone who has actually ridden with one of those seats for years.

Don’t buy from vendors who offer such low-end options like this !
It only promotes pain and suffering !
Then results in buying another unicycle anyways. Spend a little more and get a
lot more !

I bought a Savage years ago because I wanted something lighter than my Schwinn. The seat was comfy, but the chrome guards will bend. Also on my first jump off a rather small curb I bent the wheel.

If your a beginner and don’t plan on doing any jumps or moves that would stress the rim, then this might be a decent uni.

Light-duty use only!

Neither one has an adequate seat. The Torker has main cap style bearings which is the better way to go if the other has lollipop bearings.

Torkers are good little unicycles. Buying a Viscount seat is a cheap upgrade.

Re: Better Buy

Thanks for the tips!

Good detectve work michaeli

I’ve never knowingly seen a Torker, but I do know I would never buy a seat with a metal rail/handle. Torker is a ‘good make’.

If your present level of knowledge is such that you need to ask, it may be that you need to be considering more options than these two. How much do you want to spend? What will you use it for? How much will you use it? What wheel size would you prefer?

For a general purpose unicycle, which can be modified easily for a wide range of uses, I’d say get a decent 24 with a flat fork crown. The Nimbus II from Unicycle.uk.com has served me well. I have a Nimbus II, 20, and a Nimbus I, 24.)

The Viscount seat is acceptable, and the uni is nicely made and light. With a fatter tyre and the original cranks, it’s a competent little off roader. With shorter cranks (a £10 upgrade) it is good for long distances and occasional road use. The wheel size makes it small enough for basic ‘skills’ or tricks, but capable enough to cope with uneven ground, kerbs and easy trails.

Stealth Torker!!!

Or if you really want the 24, I’d go for the 24 torker, but the stealth is a great deal, and comes with a miyata clone seat.

check unicycle.com for prices.

I’m a newbie too. I bought a Torker 24inch. I know no other “normal” uni but can say that I havn’t had any problem at all with the torker. I didn’t want to destroy the seat while I was learning so I wrapped the front and back with duct tape. Not having the metal rails I read about on other uni hasn’t been a problem. I decided to leave the duct tape because the duct tape happens to serve as a sort of handle now that I’m hopping around and learning to deal with going up and down curbs and small steps.

Good ebay experience with the torker, but not my 2nd uni. It is better than my savage giraffe which is el-cheap-o quality.

I got my torker off ebay for about $65+$20 for shipping I think. You can’t miss it, the company I bought it from is always reposting them every other day. Right on top of the page if you do a search for unicycle.

But now that I’m reading through this thread about my seat being woe-fully in adiquate, I’m wondering what I’m missing. I’ll look into an upgrade I guess.

that inadequate seat for human consumption is for kids. Definately upgrade.
