Joe,
My favorites are microbrews, but the one I buy the most of is Steinlager. The ones I have found here don’t seem to be as fresh as the ones I’m used to from Hawaii. When I was in New Zealand, Mack’s Gold was very good.
Bud Light.
Chimay blue label
KronenBourg1664
Steinlager
Mac’s Gold
Bud Light
Chimay Ale: Blue Label
My favorite is called “Root”.
I prefer “free & cold”
I like Tang…
GUINNESS! and almost anythign else good and dark. guinness it at least available most places. i’ll try any mircobrew/local stout or porter though if i’m some place new.
Old Speckled Hen (proper beer)
Becks, Sol or Castlemaine XXXX (cold fizzy stuff)
Ooooh. I love these beer threads !!! My favorite subject (next to unicycling…but only cuz unicylcing’s kinda new. I’m sure beer will soon return to number one) .
I too, am a big fan of microbreweries. We’ve got one here in Flagstaff that produces a very dark stout called “Apache Trout Stout” that has won several awards in microbrew competitions in the western US. It’s probably my favorite closely followed by one out of a microbrewery in Sedona called “Oak Creek Nut Brown” ale. Both are awesome dark beers.
Sleeman’s honey brown, MGD in bottles, or simply Molson Canadian.
My dad only buys me the cheap stuff, and keeps all the good beer to himself. meh I dont mind though.
Deschutes Brewery Black Butte Porter.
fiddlers elbow or Hobgoblin is a nice treat, and I really like guiness and sleeman special dark. But I generally drink Molson export or Lakeport Honey. Sleeman Honey Brown is also really good.
Hmmmmm…Beeeer…
Here’s my top 5:
-Don de Dieu (Unibroue), strong ale from a local brewery
-La Fin du Monde (Unibroue), perfect harmony and another great 9% that warms anyone
-Leffe, strong and full of flavor from Belgium (I think beer is why belgians and quebecers get along so well)
-Mclausen abricot, with a nice sweet fruit taste
-Guiness, an always appreciated draught
I better like to drink either a quality beer or plain water, instead of a beer that taste like water.
Hmm this is a hard question. I would have to say my fav. beer is St. Niklaus Bock that the Penn Brewery is making up right now.
As the top rated american Bock you cant go wrong…
My fav. most commonly avalible beers are Bass Ale, Newcastle brown, most of the Brooklyn beer line up as well as the Great Lakes brewery’s stuff.
the SAB-Miller version of Carling Black Label
i also love guiness and am allways keen to try new beers
quite enjoyed ‘Doombar’ when i tasted in in Cornwall earlier this year
There are so many good beers that I can’t pick a single favorite. Instead I have a range of favorites. My tastes are for stouts and porters and then IPAs or a Scotch ale. But I’m good for other varieties too like seasonal ales. I prefer beers from the cask (or beer machine, or beer engine, whatever you want to call it). That’s the way good beer was meant to be served. Unfortunately many of the pubs up here don’t have any beers on cask.
I obviously like Guinness given my avatar. But it’s not my all time favorite beer. Guinness doesn’t have the flavor kick that I like. Guinness is a great fall back beer if I’m at a place where Guinness is the only good beer they offer.
If I had to pick one favorite it would probably be McMenamins Terminator Stout on cask. It was the first beer I ever had at a pub. Unfortunately I can’t get Terminator Stout on cask up here in Washington state. Some of the McMenamins pubs down in Portland Oregon still offer it on cask, but you still have to get lucky to catch them when they have that particular beer on cask.
Local and semi-local beers that I like:
Buckerfield Brewery (Swan’s Hotel) in Victoria B.C. Their Oatmeal Stout, Scotch Ale, and Brown Ale are fantastic. A big favorite when I go visit Victoria.
McMenamins beers like Terminator Stout and some of their specialty beers. Every year they do a festival of IPAs where each brewery brews up a couple of IPAs and send their batch to the other pubs/breweries for a big tasting. You get to try a lot of different IPAs.
Elsian Brewing in Seattle. They have a very tastey porter.
Pike Brewery in Seattle. I like their stout, their porter, and the Kilt Lifter Scotch Ale.
Deschutes Brewery in Bend Oregon. They have their bottled beer for sale up here in Washington. I like their Obsidian Stout and Black Butte Porter. It’s been a long time since I’ve actually been to the brewery. It’s time for a trip to Bend Oregon for a some muni and some beer.
Redhook Brewery in Woodinville Washington (near Seattle and near to me). I like it when they have their porter on cask.
Over Christmas I went down to Oregon and went to the Golden Valley Brewery. They had a good porter and oatmeal stout. Unfortunately their cask beer (oatmeal stout) ran out just as I got there.
And for fun I sometimes stop by Bottleworks and pick up a couple of bottled beers that I’ve never had before. They’ve got quite a selection.
Oh, and Rogue Brewery is also a good one. There is a Rogue Brewery in Issaquah that is a fun place to fuel up after going for a muni ride on Tiger Mountain. They’ve got some tastey beers.
And there’s others that I’m leaving out. Sure is nice to have so many good beers around.
Sounds like you have a good selection there, John.
Being a ‘newbie’ I’m yet to sample alot of beers. Im looking forward to it though!
Remember kids, drink in moderation!
Joe,
