BC with Handle

Having never rode a BC, I might be completely off base, but what the heck. I was wondering if anyone has tried to make/ride a BC with handle bars. What I’m thinking is you would have the fork of a bike complete with wheel and handle bars. The wheel would have pegs, or platforms. For the handle, I’m thinking wide cruiser bars would look cool.

Like I said, I have never tried riding a BC, but I’d think the control added with the handle would make it much easier to ride. Kinda like how riding a uni seat in is much easier then riding an ultimate wheel. The addition of a fork and handle would also make it possible to add a brake.

Let me know what you think. I have other ideas in this little head of mine.

???

would a bc still be a bc if it had handle bars?

Re: ???

oooh, i think a BC by any name, u’ll fall as hard

Re: BC with Handle

funny because I had a similar idea that started with the position you have
when you climb a slope with a b*ke (standing on your pedals).

In my idea the “fork” will not be vertical
fork and handle will be along a large curve before you.

so you stand on your pedals and you grab the loop shaped handle
then you try to always have the '“fork” not falling on the ground.
why such a bizarre design?
go figure

Re: ???

No.

It would still be hard to do though. I’ve seen people play with these, but I’m not aware of anyone doing much with one. Seems like something a Flatland Freestye BMX guy could easily identify with.

But I would definitely call it something else, as it would be quite majorly anatomically different. Maybe a peg handlebar unit?

Re: Re: ???

How bout a uni-peg-way. Kinda a combination off of a Unicycle and a Segway.

Yes, I built one of these a while back.

I took the handlebar portion off my son’s Razor scooter (it adjusts up and
down and is light).
I mounted it over an old BMX fork that I had and stuck it onto my ancient BC
wheel with the motor scooter footpegs.

I later added a cheap hand brake off my son’s old bike.

Unfortunately my son wanted his Razor back before I had chance to master it

I will try again some other time

Flatland BMXers call these ‘unbikes’ and can do quite a few different tricks on them. Probably they are a little easier to ride than a BC wheel, but are more versatile in terms of the number and types of tricks you can do on them.

it sounds like the unicycle version of the segway

Today I happened to read an article about exactly such a device in our
newspaper (in Dutch). It has been patented (number NL 1019905) by
Dutch inventor Jan Helderman. I could scan the article (including a
picture) if anyone wants to see it.

He calls it a cyke, short for cycle just as bike is short for bicycle.
He hasn’t actually built one, and he suspects it would be difficult to
ride. As far as I can see he is in no way related to the unicycling
world.
