David,

That’s me. I did the climb last week up Old La Honda, and Nathan and
Beau did the much
tougher Mt. Diablo climb on Saturday:

It’s really a “low key” event, and everyone was very supportive of
having a unicyclist on
the ride.

I will be at the climb up HWY 9 this Saturday – come on out!

Thanks. Good luck!

I’m only riding very small hills so far, but we’ll see.

I used to bike Martino Rd in Lafayette regularly–it gets a “steepest I
know of” in my copy of Roads to Ride". I’d probably try to uni that
before riding Diablo or those others. Can’t imagine descending any of
those without a brake, but I see from John Foss’s online photos that
people do.

The Mt Diablo race last Saturday was really tough. About 11 miles but over 3600’ of climbing. It was a hot hot day too. We are planning on doing the much easier one this weekend which starts about 3 miles from our house - talk about convenient! See you there Steve!

Here’s my favorite picture they posted from Diablo, Beau finishing the race up the 17% grade.

I keep intending to participate in one of these, but I’ve had to work every Friday night and/or Saturday morning for the past month. And this coming weekend is no exception.
